Pulled this snake out of my purple martin house - one martin eaten, one dead in the nest. He met his fate at the end of a shovel so this is graphic

It was a beautiful corn snake. Such a shame you couldn't have removed it without killing it. They're gorgeous creatures. And no, I'm not a snake fanatic, I actually don't care for them, but they are beneficial creatures.

Ooops! Yep, corn snake. We have one that is a "rescue" we took in from a kid heading off to college. They will eat live prey. I love purple martins too; I can understand your dilemma. You are lucky to have such a wonderful variety of wildlife!
