"Wolf
Spider Bite

Even though the wolf spider is poisonous, its venom is not lethal. The wolf spider is not known to be aggressive; however, they will bite if they feel like they are in harm or danger. They also move extremely fast when they are disturbed. If bitten by a wolf spider, the wound should not be bandaged but an ice pack should be placed on the bite so that the swelling will go down. And if necessary the victim should avoid any movement if at all possible. It is extremely important that one sees medical attention if bitten by a wolf spider or any other spider."

Your chickens will not be harmed if they choose to eat this type of spider.

How about these bad boys? They are common as heck around here, and that body is about as big as your thumb! They creep me out, but I always leave them cause they catch so many flies. The webs they build are interesting, too. They have a big zigzag down the center.

OH GAWD!!!!! Oh geez... now Im even more scared and worried!

FOOTSTEPS??????? Holy HECK! MOVE AWAY!!!! Before they start bringing in furniture!!! Or carrying off your pets....

I HATE,HATE HATE to spray poison, for anything, even weeds, because I worry about my chickens. BUT, if these guys really are poisonous, I may have to just spray along the edges of the house and windows and in the garages. If they DO eat Black widows, they sure arent doing their job since we are having an issue with too many of those kinds around here. We even had one in an unused nesting box in the coop!! And the black widow invasion isnt from a lack of those other spiders since we have those coming out the wazoo. Wish my chickens could/would eat black widows (if it isnt dangerous for them).

They get waaayyy to big for my comfort.

What if one of my children gets bit? Im serious, those spiders are EVERYWHERE around here! They get into EVERYTHING- kids toys, under anything not sealed to the ground, in cracks and crevices, you never know when one is going to literally jump out at you. EVIL I tell you.

Where in CA are you?

Check out this article from the SF Gate a few years back:

It looks like Zoropsis spinimana which has immigrated to the Bay Area from the Mediterranean area. I grew up in the Bay Area and never saw one of these till about 8 years ago at my home. Now we find them on a pretty regular basis.

The chickens LOVE them. DH says it's mean to feed them to the girls. But it's just creepy finding them in the house. They cast these HUGE shadows on the ceiling and startle me EVERY time.

Oh, and if anyone is going to get bit by anything, it's me. And I can say I've never been bitten nor has my DH. They do appear to be quite harmless. Still scary looking.
