What kind of SUV do you drive and would you recommend it?

I was originally going to trade in my full size Buick for a smaller car. I got to thinking that I need something that we can transport chickens to and from shows, and my dog, Bulldog/boxer, loves to ride in the car, but that can be a little rough on my backseats. So, that's when I got to thinking about SUV's. We have lots of hills and drive up to the mountains a few times a year, and we have a lot of dirt roads I drive on (not real good on my suspension). My oldest, and tallest, has graduated and has his own jeep, so I just don't need the big Buick anymore.

Luckily, my DH is pretty good at fixing cars and keeps up the maintenance on all of our cars. He has saved us a lot of money over the 25 years we have been together.

Mine is an '02 V-10 Works great at hauling large trailers as said above, and also at hauling lots of birds to the poultry shows! Lots and lots of space and quite comfortable.
 
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I love. She have 157,000 miles and is still going strong. It is also a 6 cyl. selecta trac. Gets great gas miles.
 
2001 Chevy Suburban and I love it! It's gone everywhere and it's the first car I've truly felt safe in. DDs will be learning to drive in it next year and that's what they'll be driving to and from school until they get their own cars. If they can drive and park a vehicle that large, they can easily drive anything smaller.
 
Honda Pilot!! Check out the Consumer Reports ratings, it's always at the top. We have 4 kids and didn't want a minivan, so we bought a used Pilot. DH likes Suburbans but I'm not interested in driving something so big (and eating all that gas). Decent gas mileage, SUPER reliable, 4WD. Never had a repair bill. Decent hauling space if you don't need the 3rd row for seating. If you do use the 3rd row like we do, it is a little small in the cargo dept. We LOVE it.
 
We currently own a Toyota 4-Runner (DH) and a Chevy Equinox (me). The 4-Runner is nice, but is built on a truck base, so it drives like a truck. Our daughter hates riding in the back seat. The Equinox is a more comfortable ride, in my opinion, but doesn't drive quite so well in bad weather (and we have the AWD version).

We've also owned a Kia Sorento FWD, which I loved - very comfortable, nice to drive - but the gas mileage wasn't great. I think they've improved it in the newer models, though. When we bought the Sorento, we also test drove the Santa Fe. We bought the Sorento because it had a little more passenger room, and our kids were still young enough to want to go places with us. If you like the Saturn Vue, get it - any GM dealer will have parts to fit it. It's very similar to the Equinox.

I' have friends who own RAV-4s and CRVs, and they love them.
