What kind of thermometer do you use?

I'm going to have to get one of those. I've got 3 different thermometers in my bator and 3 different temperatures. I've been using the accu-rite temp/humidity digital and I've found they can be 2 degrees off from each other so I really don't have any idea what my real temperature is and I want it dead on.

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I was looking at my three thermometers that I have in the bator right now and of course they all had different readings.

So, I decided to test each thermometers by laying a digital oral thermometer next to each one to see if they were even close to each other.
I'm guessing that since an oral thermometer is designed to measure at such a narrow range that it would be a pretty good gauge for accuracy.
You have to watch the oral thermometer pretty closely because they do have an automatic turn off once they reach a stable temperature reading.
Has any one tried this?

Which one, Krypton? I think it's better to pay the $21 for the Spot Check or one of similar accuracy than to pay $10 each for three or four different ones that will never be as accurate for incubating. I paid $24 for that one Flukers that GQF is now selling and the first one went all crazy from day one. Exchanged it for another one and that one did well for several incubations, but it ruined my last one by always reading a degree or two too high, as it's doing right now in my bator--I have it in there for humidity only and I recalibrated it for this hatch. Last time it was only 2% low but now it's 10% low..that's why it's important to recalibrate your hygrometer from time to time.

Remember that many thermometers are made to be in contact with something and probably won't read air temp as well. I sort of don't trust an oral thermometer unless it's in liquid of some kind. I may be wrong, though, so if I am, someone can correct me on that point.

That's a good point Speckledhen. Maybe it was't has accurate as I hoped.

I tried to have it touch the temp probe (which is for taking air temps) but now I'm wondering.
One thing I do know for certain is that the more thermometers I have in the bator the more crazy it makes me

I think the "magic" in 1.8 degrees F is that 1.8 degrees F is equal to 1 degree C, and the manufacturers really rate the accuracy of their thermometers in degrees C and then convert it to degrees F.

Thank you, tracecom, for that info. Makes sense now! Maybe I can sleep tonight.
