Funny. Does size really mater? I did put my vote in for hen. Also I should say my hen is a Maran not a barred rock. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGK/Marans/BRKMarans.html

No, your hen is a MaranS, also that is a rooster their is not even room for arguement, on a young chicken the roosters do not get pointy and shiny sickle, saddle and hackle feathers until 3-4 months depending on breed. A pullet that age should have almost no comb whatsoever, it should be small and pink. A rooster that age would have a large, red comb. When a hen reaches maturity at over 6 months old she starts to get a larger red comb. That is a rooster and I will bet my life on it. I think you should take a visit to the "What Breed or Gender is This?" section and pick up a few tips on how to sex chickens before you post incorrectly and confuse people.

For those of you thinking it is a hen, you need to realize that this isn't an adult bird. The op says they bought it as a baby and have had it for a couple weeks. To me, it looks to be 6-8wks old. To have a comb that size when not full grown, definitely means roo; not to mention the overall light color which in that breed also says roo. Adult hens can definitely have large combs depending on their breed, but in every breed, the roos tend to have larger combs than the hens.

OmaBird, I think you have your color patterns mixed up a bit. BR and Cuckoo Marans roosters will be lighter overall than hens since their white bars tend to be more prominent, not the other way around.
