What Kind of Worm?

@dawg53 As a carrier will she just infect every bird she ever lives with? Or is it only contagious if she has an active outbreak?

Can you tell me best treatment please. I'm overwhelmed at this point. One post with treatment plan with be easier for me to follow. :th

eta: What should I clean feeder and waterers with? Is food currently in feeders ok or should I toss it?

I would wash the waterers with a bleach mixture.

1/4 cup to a gallon of water should sterilize them. Then rinse, rinse, rinse and refill.

I use that mix in my own dishes and rinsing extremely heavily after. I also soap and water after first rinse.

To be on the safe side I would toss any feed in the dishes.

As to treatment schedule for the birds I can only leave that to the experts.

I am so sorry Nunny! This does all sound very stressful and overwhelming :hugs BUT I know you can handle this! You are one tough lady!
Going forward it looks likes you need to:
1) Figure out a way to separate Missy for monitoring and treatment.
2) Buy the medications you need ASAP. From the links provided in posts 11 and 16 you need:
Treatment for canker is Metronidazole, (Fish Zole)... Dosage is one 250mg tablet per day for 5 days.
[and]
Copper sulfate at 1/8 teaspoon per gallon of water for 3 days in a row once a month will control it.
3) Clean all your waterers and feeders as Henny suggested in post 24. I would probably toss out the feed just to be safe, but that is just me. I am sure others will chime in again soon.
4) Take a deep breath. You can handle this!!!!!

My concern is the rest of the flock. I can seperate her temporarily but not forever.

I'm also thinking about my one waterer. When I cleaned them all it had a bit of algae in. It makes me wonder if she doesn't have canker but something from that waterer. (I'm probably being hopeful and not realistic.)

I'm picking up the canker meds and cleaning and separating her today. I can't do the copper sulfate for another week. The babies are still to little.

It really makes me wonder. All the biosecurity in the world couldn't prevent this. There is no saying what birds carry it if they've never had an outbreak. Something as simple as a song bird sneaking a drink from the chicken dish can spread this. How can we ever prevent it!?!

@CSAchook I know I've got this! I've done things in care of my chickens I never would have thought I could do. I've delt with worms and creepy crawlies. Debrided wounds and put my fingers places they shouldn't go. Now I've pulled gunk from a throat with tweezers.

Oh bless your heart...I surely hope it’s not worms but darn...you were able to rinse mucus and take pictures!!! Gah! That poor bird!!! :th

And yes all while taking pictures! This really made me laugh. I needed it, Thanks.

Of course the only pet store in town doesn't have fish zole.

They did have this in the fish section but not straight. I’m looking online for a store that carries it but I may need to order.
