What Kinds Of Flowers Do Chickens Eat?

I am thinking of planting a hummingbird garden in my backyard. But my backyard is also my oegb's run. Will they eat the flowers? Are any of them poisonous if the chickens were to snitch a leaf or two or dead flowers when they fall off? What flowers would you plant to attract hummers?

I've heard that bulbs are poisonous to chickens, but someone will have to confirm that.
I just have a bunch of humming bird feeders out... I have to have more than one because there is one fat little bird that keeps everyone away from one certain feeder!

I used to have a hibiscus plant- a big one- that the hummers loved. DH dug it up one day without consulting me first. DOUBLE

I would try Honey Suckle. The blooming smell is wonderful. It grows quickly, and it comes back every spring. Humming Birds love the blossoms. My girls have not messed with it and it runs along two of our fence lines.

I planted last year-- My coop , garden looked good for 6 minutes -- The chickens ate every bloom in sight- My Pops came by and asked why I had planted all the stems ?
I had begonias , pansies, Lillies --yea it looked really pretty

I think Monarda (Bee Balm) is nice. It attracts hummers and butterflies, and it's an herb you can use to make tea with, too. (It's used to flavor Earl Grey tea.) I doubt it would give the chickens any trouble if they nipped it.

Stay away from Foxglove, though, and Nicotiana.

Tomlisa, I have honeysuckle growing on one side of the run down at my other coops and my chickens just love it. They keep the inside of the run fence clean and when it grows up over the netting, I cut it off and feed it to them.

Barnyard Dawg, I have some beautiful roses in my backyard the chickens never bother. But there is one deep red one that Leroy (oegb roo) will jump 3' high to get the petals for his ladies. I finally had to throw some netting over the bush to protect the flowers.

Lysse, I was thinking of Bee Balm I just wish I knew if they would keep the plant stripped bare so that it wouldn't bloom. Thanks for the tip on the poisonous ones!

I think flower eating depends on the birds own taste. I have some birds that will eat some flowers and other who prefer the bugs in the dirt. Rose pedals are ignored by my birds though.

My birds love appricot blossoms. They eat them as fast as they fall to the ground.
