I have 5 3 week old layers, 4 3 month meaties, and 2 1 year layers. I have just found out all have lice. I also have 2 children under 3. All my chickens run free around my lawn. How do I go about treating them? I am in Ottawa Canada and the coop says I can not purchase any poweder as i need a pesticide license... does any one have any reccomendations?

I use Sevin. It's safe for the chicks. I bought mine online.

I use Permethrin as a dip. Mix it up, and dunk the birds into it.
And the used dipwater can be sprayed or dribbled around the yard wherever you have a bug problem.
Don't know if it is available by you....

Sevin Dust is also available at Tractor Supply Co if you have one near you.
TSC by me has never heard of lice in chickens.....

I got some dusting powder from a local vet and am going to use the d. dust for in their dust bath. Fingers crossed!

A pesticide license for dusting powders....
You can use Adams flea and tick dip. Follow the directions on the label, dip your birds in a 5 gallon bucket then let them run free to dry themselves off. Of course a warm/hot sunny day is best to do it in this manner. Then clean your coop out and use a sprayer to spray the inside of the coop with the leftovers. Do it the same day and give it time to dry out before adding new bedding.
