What made you happy today?

Same here, Sally.
It’s been a blessing!
We got too much the first night but it's been more even since then. Wet, but not sloppy. Nice!

But my "happy today" is that we still have 18 young chicks - can't call them bibis any more, they are more than 10 weeks old now! - have lost 3 but still have 3 more than we ordered.

Some of the temporary chickens are learning the coop routine.

Four of them trooped into the coop on their own when I came out, mine still don't like sharing the coop much, so they were a bit reluctant but eventually went in on their own, two of the temp chickens had to be caught but weren't too hard, and I only had to chase the silkie around the coop for about 15 minutes.

I had the coop door open and managed to convince the rest of the chickens to stay in there so the silkie would eventually decide to go in with her flock mates instead of just running around and around the outside of it. She knew they were in there and she wanted to be in there, but she's skittish.

Friend came over for coffee and brought cinnamon swirl cake! Yum. ☕

I managed to get a few of our red grapes before the birds did. (They got all the green ones, grrrr!) The red grapes are not quite as sweet as I would like, but if I don't pick them now, the birds will get them.

This is our first grape harvest! 3rd season for the vines.

I printed out some photos of former flock mates and placed them in the basement brooder. I expected the girls to peck at them, but they actually LOOKED at the photos! Almost like how they act with a mirror. They somehow knew they were looking at chickens and not just a pattern on the wall. I'm not convinced they recognized any faces, but you never know! The whole thing amazed me.
