What made you happy today?

I am in New Mexico! :wee
Spent most of the morning with my dearest best friend, whom I have not seen in 15 years, although we communicate regularly via text and phone. :love Have also been hanging out with other dear friends, am staying in their guest house, very comfy and they are making me feel right at home. :hugs But best of all I got to have dinner with my son. What a wonderful, blessed day! ❤️❤️❤️

Feel you 100% on this. Most folks run the shower for a couple minutes to get hot water. We do it to get cold! :p
Exactly! We don't have a frost line in the desert so pipes don't have to be buried below it. I think the law is pipes have to be buried 12" below the surface but construction crews, um, don't always follow that rule.

Our water pipes are just below the surface so those pipes stay constantly heated in hot weather. Water is piping hot all the way to the house - there is no cool water even if you let it run.

Some people in the desert have water chillers for their homes, just like everyone else has water heaters. But those are costly, I've only seen them in higher-end houses. The rest of us just live with only hot water for most of the year. Taking super hot showers when it's 115F outside is not fun. Having cool water again is a joy! 🥳

What made me happy today is I went through that stack of papers and unopened mail on my desk. Now my desk is all cleared off and clean and purdy. 😊

Amazon left a big box right out front where thieves can steal it - happens a lot here - but the box was still there when I ran out to get it! Hahaha, take that, porch pirates! :yesss:

(Naughty Amazon driver. They're supposed to leave packages by the side door which can't be seen from the street.)

Do you guys have a problem with that? I would think me, in the middle of Mesa, would have a higher risk.

Yeah. Thieves with big backpacks on bicycles or in cars without license plates follow the delivery trucks around and they take whatever they want. They wear hoodies and masks so there's no way to ID them even with cameras. Any deliveries have to be brought inside immediately. They're willing to cut chain link fences and steal stuff out of backyards so snatching a package sitting in the open on a front porch is easy for them.

We don't get regular mail here anymore, we had to get a post office box because we have curbside mailboxes and thieves take that, too. We petitioned the post office for porch mail delivery but they refused.

We also had to put a lock on our outdoor spigot because they were coming into the yard to steal water. I get that it's hot, but water is free all over town, why break into our yard to steal ours??

Before we had cameras there was this one weirdo who would sneak into our yard and smoke cigarillos. He'd always leave one burning on a windowsill, as if to let us know he'd been there and he was claiming that as his space, or something. AFAIK the police never caught him. It was very creepy.
