Will you please check out these rare photos of our chickens snacking on green grass! The grass shoots are a result of the rain we had the other day.
Their runs are shaded and dry, so the ground there is just hard desert dirt without any plants. This is how everything looks most of the year:
The recent rain is what made the difference. The turnout pens aren't shaded and they got a full day of rain (!!). Today the flock got the chickeny satisfaction of scratching in the damp earth and snapping off the young blades of grass in the afternoon sun.
Things grow FAST in the desert because they know they only have a short time. It'll all turn brown and die soon so I'm glad the chickens got to enjoy it. When they're happy, I'm happy. I loved watching them.
