Since you are going to make two coops, you may want to make a door in the green line in case you ever want one big coop again. The door can be human sized to allow for easy cleaning between the coops.
yknow the green line goes right through the existing entrance door & I didnt even realize it until I read your post a second time

oh! Q #2 is there any actual benefit to having two smaller coops rather than just expanding the existing run to increase capacity?

I personally would just extend the run. Depending on which side your wind comes from the most, and depending on the style you want, the run could wrap around the coop area to make a wrap around run (like a porch) or you could extend it out. It all depends on your set up.

the covered thing to the left of the coop is temporary in the sense that its gunna sit there for another five years probably and the fence looking thing to the right of the coop is actually temporary

I have a walk in run which I absolutely love! It is easy to clean and get to anything in there I want to get to. If you are redoing the run, you may want to think about having it at your height. I love the nesting box! I also use 5 gallon pails for my nesting boxes, it make it easy to clean when necessary.
Yeah, I had to crawl through that little door to get an egg from the run today.
Otherwise they are currently laying eggs in the corner

Ha! It always seems like they do these things on purpose. Where they all standing there and watching you accomplish retrieving the egg?
oh no, my birds are very people averse. they were giving me shifty eyes and the second I was out of the doorway they ran into the coop to get away from me. lol.
