What makes an egg covered in blood?

The shell was well formed. Need help knowing if our seemingly happy hens are suffering.

Also, if this is something that can be passed to others in the flock?

I've had quite a few eggs with blood on them. I think it happens when the egg has trouble coming out it just cuts their but a little bit.

We had a chicken pass away 5 days before the bloody egg. The chicken that passed away had blood by her egg vent. So we're worried it might be a disease or bacteria being spread.

I had a hen pass away about 3 weeks ago. She laid an egg every day but she quite & started pooping some blood and not able to walk very well. I actually think an egg broke in her and she was my favorite hen
