What medications/treatments can "Organic" chicks/chickens receive, if any?

Hey, I posted on the other thread, but thought I'd answer this one, too. Chickens raised for organic eggs can only be given medication and antibiotics when there is an infectious break-out or disease. Good luck!

So if my chickens get worms, I can use something like Invermectin, but I should not give them any de-worming treatment without the signs of an actual infection? Are there any preventative treatments for common chicken maladies that don't violate "organic" rules?

You're correct on the de-worming. As for other illnesses, just make sure you have good bio-security. Clean environment and living conditions, etc. I've had chickens for six years and mine have never gotten an illness. Keeping chickens healthy is very easy, and doesn't violate organic hens, actually it is a bonus.

I've read that the combination of garlic and cayenne pepper, ACV in their water(not in a galvanized metal waterer) and food grade diatomaceous earth mixed in where they dust bath are good organic methods of preventing parasites. My chicks are still young so I've not used this method, but I plan to. Does anyone know if this is tried and true?
