What might happen if we get rid of our rooster?

I'm still torn over it, actually. We can't get more hens-our coop is sized for the amount we have and there is less than zero chance dh will make it bigger or build a new one (this one is our second one). Last night about 4 am I went out to shut the garage door and could hear that crazy rooster crowing one right after the other. He barely took time to take a breath in between. He does this every single night. We've been out there when he's done it and there's no critters around so I know that's not why. Those poor hens must not get much sleep.

Unfortunately, we lost our beautiful roo to a fox about a week ago. Our girls are very sad and all but one have stopped laying. It's hard only getting one egg a day especially since we eat so many as a family of six! Hopefully they start laying again soon, but we sure miss our roo!
