Is this approximately 19 week old chick a pullet or cockerel? Could you also help me figure out what breed or mix she/he is? She/he was sold to us as a Barred Rock, but I am certain she/he is not. The bottoms of her/his feet are yellow and I think she has a cushion comb.

Pullet. Lots of breeds have yellow skin. Definitely not a Barred Rock. A mix of some kind. Except for the yellow feet, I would have guessed she had Black Australorp in there somewhere. How big is she?

She has pink skin on her body except for her comb/top of head and her legs and top of feet which are black. The bottoms of her feet are the only part of her that is yellow. I was thinking that she might have some araucana in her. I do not know how big she is, but she is small, about the size or smaller of my Ameraucana at her age. She is very smart and a good hunter she is also quite wary.

I had a hen that sort of looked like her.
Mine was quite large and was all black with the exception of a single white feather at the tip of each wing.
She had a wonderful personality and her sire was a Plymouth Barred Rock mix.

Do you now what her dame was?

I do not know. I suspected it was a Maran or a Maran mix as it was the only black hen I had.
I say, "or a Maran mix" because I was given her as a chick and while I thought she was a Black Maran, I cannot be sure and I had no experience with this breed.
If I remember correctly, the only other possibilities were two other hens I had at that time. I do not know their lineage, but here are photos of them.

Here are photos of my black girl, that reminds me of your pullet.
She is fully grown.
Does she look to you similar?

Gorgeous bird.

At 19 weeks, I'm guessing pullet.
Her mom may or may not be a Barred Rock, I'm not sure. But her dad isn't a Barred Rock.
Explanation below.
(Picture examples)

My Barred Plymouth Rock pullet. Black bird with white stripes ("barred" = white stripe. Any breed and color can be barred)

Second picture = 2 solid black pullets. One is the daughter of a barred mom.

Barring is sex linked.
Barred mom x non-barred dad = daughters not barred, sons single barred.
Barred Hens can only pass barring onto sons, not her daughters.
Barred Roosters can pass barring onto anybody.

Black is a dominant color. If one of the parents is black feathered, there's a possibility the chicks will be as well even if the other parent isn't black.
(*keep in mind that Blue, Chocolate, and Lavender, are all black based. And white can hide patterns and colors.)
