We are going to take the plunge and get 25 or 30 Cornish cross this year. Our farm supply has them delivered once a month every month until October. Should I get them mid August, or mid September? It is hot here in August....I’m going to say around 24-30C depending on the year. By mid Sept it is in the low 20’s usually.
If I got them in August, they’d be butchered the second week of Oct. If I got them in Sept, we’d be in November by butchering and it’s quite cold by then. I know they don’t like heat and don’t do well in it, but how cold hardy are they?
They will be living on the grass in a chicken tractor that will be moved once or twice a day as needed.
