What Mug Are You Using Today?

Travel mugs today because … road trip! :celebrateI’m going to

The Ohio National Poultry Show!!

In 11 years of owning chickens I’ve never gone. Always wanted to, but 3 hours’ drive one way is kind of far just to gawk at birds and I could never get up the motivation. But this year a friend from BYH mentioned that she would be going, so I made plans to meet up with her there. So excited! Get to meet a forum friend in real life!

And, I’m hoping to stop at some new-to-me Goodwills while I’m that far from home, so maybe I will pick up a new souvenir mug or two! I wonder if they sell Ohio National mugs. 🤔 I wouldn’t be surprised.

Have a great day, everyone. I know I’m going to!
That is awesome! Have a great time!

Thanks guys! It was very much fun! My friend from BYH is as awesome in real life as she is on the forum. We really enjoyed our time together. She showed chickens previously for a lot of years and is getting back into it now. It was a lot of fun to basically have a guided tour of the giant show.

If you’ve ever been to a poultry show, you know you can usually look across the room over the tops of the cages. Well there are so many birds at the Ohio Nationals (over 8,000 this year) that they double stack the cages and you can’t see over the tops! I didn’t try take a picture of the whole room, but their trophy table area gives you an idea of how many awards given out!

Here are some of the winning birds that I took photos of.

And this Cayuga duck! Oh my!! I’ve had Cayuga ducks and they didn’t live up to the idea of having green sheen. So I figured it was played up more than it would actually be in real life. But I guess top show quality ones really ARE green! My picture does not do it justice!

I am partial to Speckled Sussex, so I got pictures of some of those.

And finally, I did make it to 4 goodwills. 3 on the way there that were located right near the freeway, and one in a neighborhood not far from the fairgrounds that I went to before I headed home. I have to say, Ohio Goodwills do not impress me. at. all. I was looking for mugs and yarn. Only two stores even had any yarn, and their prices were crazy high. Nope, sorry, I’ll buy brand new yarn of my choosing for those prices. Not your second hand one off color that I have no choice about.

But I did find one mug that sparked joy. So here’s my trip souvenir:

(The Ohio National Show organization does not sell any merch. The woman I asked at their table said that putting on the show takes all their time and they just can’t do merch on top of it. Oh well, no mug or shirt for me.)
