I had thought about goats for milk...then I actually tried some goat cheese. Sorry, it tasted like my hands smell after rubbing on my pet goat. It was entirely too "goaty" for me. I don't even drink cow milk higher than 1% because it tastes like a cow to me, even though my mother used to buy us real whole milk straight from the dairy when I was a kid, the kind that would separate into 2 inches of cream on top and you had to shake it before you poured. Yeah, I don't like my foods to taste like the animal smells when it is alive.

I'd encourage you to try goat cheese again - it's amazingly good! Maybe try another brand - something imported from France, perhaps. Also, goat milk shouldn't have any kind of goaty taste if the animals are well kept and there's no male around (it's the presence of a male goat that makes the female's milk go funky). Store bought goat milk is nasty. But I had fresh raw goat milk from a neighbor and it was the most delicious milk I ever had! Totally without any sort of funny smell or taste. Just wonderful! It sold me on having our own dairy goats some day soon! Till then, we drink organic soy milk because store bought milk grosses me out.
