What an awesome thread!! My husband has a favorite thing to say "We're all just a little bit crazy."
I would have to say that fits me ~
I am a bit OCD ( though not bad, afterall, he is my check & balance) ~ I have a huge collection of pearls & beads, fabrics, sell stuff on
eBay, homeschool, cook from scratch, sew, make & sell doll clothes, & craft, grind my own wheat, grow a garden,& am a stay-at-home mom. My friends call me a hippy version of Martha Stewart. (Hubby has a collection of old 1940's pick-ups, bow-hunting stuff, and camping gear ~ I'm his check & balance)
I am very dedicated to my faith. I know God loves us all, regardless.. I try to see what it is he loves in others, helps me to love them too ~ that said, can't stand big government, & pointless laws & time wasters.
My husband went from a $50K a yr job to self-employment, and our entire family supported him through it. He's a master carver & fine woodworker, does everything from chainsaw carved animals to fine antique reproductions ~ all out of our shop ( garage) and that supports a family of 7 ~ we "recycle" ~ some might call that dumpster-diving :-D~ We live in the middle of town, & heat our home with a woodstove ~ the kids help out with every part of our home life. Our house is the one with all the neighborhood kids over ~ & we like it that way, then you know where they are at. I don't care what anyone says, I give out cookies AND hugs. I will ALWAYS promote the family. Some folks think we are strange for that ~
I listen to almost every type of music there is, classical, pop, country, techno, world fusion, etc, unless it's rap & hard rock, debases women or families, or cusses. I love to wear sari's, salwar kameez, & lengha & choli. I write a blog, and have several books in the works, as well as doing the photography for a book my 9 yr old son is writing.
We backpack into places, & have since the kids were born. When we vacation, it's always with an educational bent, and we all love it. We own guns, and use them, and taught the kids how to use them too. We also own fishing poles, and use them too ~ :-D We read incessantly ~ when I was in 3rd grade, I had read every book in the school library, when I was 13, I had read every single book in the kid's section in the public library. I grew up without a tv till I was 15. ( & I'm only 36) Now, my kids watch tv on Saturday only ( including movies, and we often forget to watch anything at all), and we don't have cable, or watch any movie rated over pg-13. I abhorr violence & sexual promiscuity, & think that it is ruining families, and hence ruining our nation.
I thought I was different ( my neighbor tells me I "march to a different drum altogether") until I met all of you awesome folks ~ I too love it that a crazy love for some silly chickens has brought so many wonderful folks together!! {:>)=
