I'm sure this will stir the pot, but the main reason is that the teaching profession is inhabited by liberals who gave a virtual high five, in their minds, when they saw America taken down a notch or two.

It didn't stir the pot Royd., but it does show where your head is at. The only reason that there are a disproportionate number of liberals in the school system is because it requires a high level of dedication and above average intelligence.

The reason it's not taught is because it's not part of the CSAP. Most schools teach what's on the test. Most kids don't care anyway. They're just trying to get through school so they can start their life.

When I was in public school we were taught American history. We had an entire semester in 9th grade on Hitler and the camps. We learned quite a bit about WWI and WWII but not much about the Korean Conflict. Of course Nam was happening at the time and people in our school that couldn't afford to send their kids to college were losing sons and brothers. The general public didn't even know that much about Nam. We saw it on TV every night, but didn't know about all the usual lies and deception going on.

Gosh. Royd, you opened a huge can of worms. Now intelligence stereotypes and untrue ad hominem insults are starting to get thrown around.

Am I the only one here who is SICK TO DEATH of liberal/conservative stereotypes? This stuff borders on the absurdity of party politics.

Hate to disappoint, but teachers tend to be the bottom of the barrel, scholastically. When you add in the union mentality, once they've made tenure, it's all about them. Trust me, teaching, like nursing, and law enforcement, is no longer a calling. It's a guaranteed 20 year retirement.

What's the old saying? "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

I try to avoid associating myself with a particular group. "Conservative" and "liberal" no longer mean ideologies - it's basically the same Republican and Democrat for all practical purposes now. I find stereotypes incredibly annoying - I've met intelligent liberals and intelligent conservatives, as well as complete dolts on both ends of the spectrum (none of whom, fortunately, were met here

Totally sick of it. We can't get past the Us vs. Them mentality in this country to actually FIX what's wrong with anything.

Actually, no. I'm not sure if there's a PLACE on the left-right line for my views.

The conservative and liberal ideologies BOTH greatly irk me - the best way I can describe my position is as libertarian. Not to be confused with the failure known as the Libertarian Party. Not an anarchist by any means, although some have made that accusation.

Although there's nothing wrong with being Swiss - as I recall, nobody for the past few hundred years has had the guts to invade Switzerland.

As an off-topic laugh, I present this actual conversation between a high-ranking German and a Swiss general.

German: How many men are under your command?
Swiss: I can raise a million men in 24 hours.
German: What would happen if I marched 5 million men in tomorrow?
Swiss: Each of my men would fire five shots and go home.

When the car is broken down, we can both agree that it's broke....Some people just want to get home, for the night, where it's safe and warm. Others, want to fix the car, so that they don't have to worry about, for another year. Therein, lies the battle and the difference of opinion.

Well the Us vs Them mentality will always be there. Any time you hear a politician speak they will always and I mean always take the opportunity to take a jab at the other side. It's always been that way as long as I can remember.

Royd. Which side is which that you are talking about anyway? So far I haven't seen anyone trying to fix the car. The closest anyone has come is Obama with his health care plan. As for the 2 parties. They might as well be the same as far as the politicians go. Their bases are different, but the only time the base matters is at election time. The rest of the time they both try to send as much money as they can to their campaign contributors.
