What predator does this??

Lost a black astralop hen last night, we have DONE so good with our new pen and then WHAMO!! we lose one. What kind of predator would eat the head and most of the breast but, leave the wings and feet? Feathers where everywhere around her! Makes me want to sit up tonight and wait for them, like Annie Oakley!!! I have heard that racoons would do this....what do you think?

That's what i've read, that a raccoon will eat the head and crop. i'm so sorry!

A racoon would be my guess. They will usually eat the head or breast or take the whole chicken away. A possum will usually eat the stomach or back end. Sorry for your loss I am going thru the same thing.

well, I think she might have been sitting or laying when we closed the gate last nite

going to get wire to put over the top, just in case! it is a 18 x 25 foot cyclone fence pen
