What price do you charge for eggs?

I only have 2 customers. They both offered my wife five bucks a dozen. They get the majority of my eggs. I individually inspect every egg that goes in their cartons including candling. I do not wash the eggs I put the ones with slight dirt in my carton.

I have went up on my price to 2.50 a Dz. I was selling them for 2.00 but with feed cost sky rocketing I'm forced to raise my prices.

Here eggs go from $3-5 a dozen. I was more than willing to pay the $5 but all the waiting lists were so long that we decided to get our own chickens! Yay!

Where do you get cartons?

I have family and friends to save theirs for me. I bet I have 200 stored for when all mine start laying.

I've got light brown, med brown, dark brown, blue, pale pink, olive green and white eggs, organically grown and sell mine for $2 a doz. I only sell my extra eggs to pay for the feed anyway and I sell first come, first served. I'm always having to turn people away because I've sold out. I explain that I only have 13 three-year-old hens and they are working as hard as they can.

Edited to add: I also give a 25 cent discount on the returned carton, but it must be MY carton. I won't use any other cartons but my own. I use clear plastic cartons and I order them from eggcartons.com. If a person gives me back 3 cartons but only buys 2 doz eggs, I can then disinfect the carton in a bleach/water bath. That is why I won't use anybody elses carton....they don't disinfect. Plus, my eggs are multicolored and look really nice in the clear cartons. I have actually had one person come and tell my son that she didn't want anything but white eggs as she wouldn't eat those "colored" eggs. What a bigot I say. I only get two tiny white eggs a day from my two buttercup hens. Needless to say she'll be waiting a LONG time for any eggs from me.

Where do you get cartons?


i bought my cartons from eggcartons.com i believe it is called. they sent me a catalog when i requested it. 50 cartons cost me like $25 with shipping. Legally you can not use store bought egg cartons and resale eggs in them. The cartons i ordered have all the warnings about cooking, refrigeration, etc. then i went on my computer and made little cards to put in each carton as to experation date our name and phone number. then i let them bring the carton back and i give them 25 cents off. i figure i can reuse those, i bought those myself. of course i won't reuse one if it had cracked egg yolk or white in it or was starting to look used!

Well-- here in N.W Michigan Meijer and Walmart are getting (as of Weddnesday) $1.78 for regular white eggs, $2.28 for Brown, and $3.50 for "Organic Brown" eggs....
We were at the "Whole-foods co-op" Tuesday,(Health foods/organics, vitamins and such) and they are getting (ready for this???) $5.00 a dozen for "Certified Organic Free-range" eggs!!

That must be one expensive certificate!!!!

We allready have people asking about eggs-- and our babies are only 6 weeks old!!!

I have a question regarding selling the fertilized eggs. I have 3 girls laying since January, now I have 6 roos into the mix that are just getting mature enough to be able to fertilize the eggs. I have no intention of hatching, the point I am trying to get to is if I pull the eggs every day and they are kept in the fridge- even a couple of days before I sell them, can they still be hatched? I am only selling to people I live near and work with and they have no intention of hatching, I am just curious about this.

Our steady, weekly customers pay $2/dozen. For anyone else, we charge $3/dozen or 2 dozen for $5. Tried charging $4 but only sold 1 dozen at that price.
