What projects are you planning for spring?

I keep leaving sketches for a bigger run lying around the house, hoping that DH will take the hint. Birthday coming up....... hint, hint.

I started reading this thinking I did not have that much to do, but you all reminded me of a few things.

1. befor spring {I hope} get my layer hoop coop & run up. plan lay out for the rest of coops and garden maybe. redo the broody house run, to make it fuzzy butt safe.
2. get the Delaware breeder coops up, planing for 3 flocks of Dels, or 2 plus breeder pens
3. Bantam Breeder pens
4. LF rooster grow out pen
5. coops, breeder pens ect for my games

and at some point get the bantams and games, some silkies too, get more guineas, and maybe build a pen for quail???
and I said I just wanted a few hens for eggs, HA

My big spring project is going to eliminate a winter nuisance: The hen yard is in the shadow of the privacy fence and the neighbor's garage.

Step 1 - get rid of a raised bed built with really heavy rocks.
Step 2 - level the ground where the coop will end up
Step 3 - cut holes in the floor and remove the 12" galvanized spikes nailing the coop to the ground
Step 4 - push, pull, drag or forklift the coop 10' to the north

Grrr.

Holy cow, so many things to do.

1. Leveling a section of the yard.
2. Bringing poo from the horse farm over to compost.
3. Moving the garden.
4. Reseeding a back portion of the yard.
5. Fixing the lawn tractor.
6. Fixing the mouse shed, heater/ac unit.
7. Build a little bigger coop. My son and I built a small one but its way to small.

Wow I could keep going.... I guess spring is a good time to do outside projects. It sure beats the heck out of this cold and the summer heat...

Woooo, fun post, I love Spring

*New roof on polebarn
*After roof...new, larger coop!

In my head it's spring already... thank goodness too because otherwise it sneaks up on me.

1. Put down mock concrete flooring in ALL dirt coops - gonna bring in a couple loads of rock, then sprinkle quickcrete & wet it in.
2. Run power to main bank of coops
3. Run water spigot to main bank of coops
4. Setup water reclamation system on main bank of coops to lead to gardens

That is it for major developments

Once those seed catalogs start arriving in the mail, I'm in Spring mode (regardless of how much snow we'll get between now and April).

1. Build 2 to 4 new raised garden beds (we already have 8).
2. Build at least 2 cold frames and get started early this year.
3. Plant another raspberry hedge, probably about 30 feet long
4. Plant grapevines & build arbor for them outside the west end of the chicken run - eventually it'll shade the run in the afternoons.
5. Stucco the outside of the coop (our neighborhood/community covenants).
6. Build new cupola on top of coop for ventilation, and put a weather vane on it.
7. Re-landscape several flower beds.
8. Run a new water line out to the corner of the coop & run.
9. Start a new herb garden in one of the raised beds.
10. Improve the run area - build an outdoor roost, new dust bathing area, etc.

All that in addition to the regular vegetable/fruit gardening and yard care that goes on around here. And adding 5 or so new birds. I can't wait!

I'm hatching my first eggs this spring! Delawares and Hopefully some Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas.

I'm also debating on whether or not to build a hoop coop at the new property I'm moving to...

2. Build another fenced in and at least partially roofed run.

3. Learn how to post pictures to my BYC Page! ( I can post to emails, copy and post to forum, but not to BYC Page)

4. Build bigger woodshed.

5. Build lean to to store Kawasaki Mule under.

6. Cut copious amounts of firewood.
