Hi 🐓 fam!
Happy Easter to all!
Hope you have plenty of eggs decorated and that you have a blessed day on this day of days. ✞

Here are my seven 8-week old babies - who are closer to toddlers at this point. It’s my opinion that we’ve got 3 hens and 4 roos - but my husband disagrees.

Thank you so much in advance for your expertise! 😊 xo

I’ve got colored bands to keep track of who’s who and what’s what’s what…so here we go:

You're going to get an answer you probably don't expect. Chickens would use "they-them" pronouns if they were allowed. Chickens, besides carrying chromosomes that determine one sex or the other, they also all carry sex cells for both sexes. This means that an accident or injury to their sex organs can tip them over into the opposite sex, no transition surgery required. https://www.npr.org/2010/03/11/124529630/half-rooster-half-hen-helps-unlock-sex-mystery

To get more accurate guesses from others here, tell us the age and breed of these chicks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, so I'll let someone else do it, but I do hope I'm wrong. I'm new, so it's very likely I'm wrong :fl

I also see two chicks w a bright green band only . . . did you miss one?

Thanks for the info!
Very interesting and certainly unexpected. 😂

My seven chicks are Black Laced Gold Wyandotte breed, 8 weeks old.

I’ve kept two hens (rescues) for about 8 years, but this is the first time I’ve raised chicks.

My husband “surprised” me by ordering these chicks (boy, did he ever!). He didn’t know what straight run meant (neither did I until we got them), I just wanted 3 hens.

Unfortunately, roosters are illegal in my city and I’m working on rehoming the

So here we are not sure which of the seven are hens/roos.

We might need to wait for a bit longer to find out.

Thanks again for the information!

We have seven chicks but only had five colors of the leg bands! 😂

Two of them have two bands.

Regardless, they’re very hard to see in some of the pictures, so I apologize.

It seems that we may need to wait until they’re a bit older to figure out who gives up the eggs!

Thanks for replying and take care!
