What pulls a chicken through a cage????

I have lots and lots of bats in my bat houses, and they don't bother us, the chickens, or anything or anyone else. Why on earth would you be afraid of bats, especially about them and your chickens?

Uh, bats do NOT 'prey on cows', unless you live in South or Central America in which case there are some areas that have vampire bats which yes will go after cows (they do not kill them, not individually anyhow, and I am not sure 'prey on' is really the right term - would you say a mosquito 'preys on' you?)

Vampire bats are only one (1) kind of bat though.

All the others have not the FAINTEST interest in cows, I assure you (nor chickens nor people).

Thank ya'll but I don't think bats are the problem.....I have fruit bats and they're fine cause they eat all the dang bugs. I am thinking about using a light blanket over the cage until I get this problem solved. A dog may be the answer too....now to research that

The raccoons will keep coming back until you have no chickens left for them to eat. If you plan on keeping them in a dog cage then wrap it in hardware cloth or double up on some chicken wire. Then you can also move the cage into a secure area like a coop or garage.

I agree, securing the cage in a closed coop is your only defense. Having anything in "just wire" is an open meal for a coon.

A couple years ago we had a mink pulling them to wire and popping heads off, we could never catch him with humane traps and refuse to use other type. we had to redo coops with smaller wire.

That is one Spectacular Bat House !!!!

I would love to have a bat house - I've been trying to get hubby to build me one for years, and now we are in a place that I can have one without the neighbors freaking out (ignorant people) I CAN have one. That might just be hubby's next project <g>.

I have a crew of about 15-20 bats who fly around the barnyard every evening - I love bats.

Peace -

Raccoons, they will pull them to the wire and eat them pcs x pcs.

Had one get under my Quail pen ate the legs off thru 1/2 in. hardware. Set a live trap, caught a coon that night.

Fence all the way to the ground now.

Wow! I had no idea they'd do that! I hate to kill it in case it has babies...do you just catch it and release it somewhere else? Is there a certain distance you should go before you drop it off?
