what r u planting in your garden for your chickens?

I started some alfalfa seeds in the sprouter, just to make myself feel better. And a fresh pot of kitty grass.

I grow stuff & pitch it into the run. My chickens don't dig in my garden.
I will plant more zuchini and Romaine lettuce in 2009. I was amazed by the tons of garden extras my chickens ate. They cleaned up mine and the neighbors'. I will also plant pumpkins this year. Someone gave me a few and my girls ate them down to the skin. The vine plants are such an efficient use for chicken feed.

If your chickens are like mine, they'll probably dig up & eat the seed before it sprouts. Better to grow the rye in trays, and place it in the pen after it sprouts. I used to do this, in the shallow plastic trays nurseries use to send their plants to the stores.

I've also sprouted bird-feeder seed, just kept it damp in a shallow pen until it sprouted an inch or two, then gave that to the chickens.

I c what u mean. looks like I'm gonna take them to the 8x8 dog lot during the day.
