Omg how adorable!!! I was thinking of getting some bunnies. Can I house them with chickens?I live in new York what is the best kind to have in this cold weather? My sister had a floppy ear when we were children I didn't have much to do with it so I know nothing about them.

They can't eat chicken feed, but they can live with chickens depending on the chickens themselves.

As long as the rabbit feed isn't medicated and the chickens aren't eating vast amounts of it, I don't think there would be a problem. That said, I would at least look at the ingredients list and make sure everything on it is chicken friendly before allowing them access.

Hi, I got my first two bunnies a few months ago. Two does. They were born on December 26, so they are about 4 1/2 months old. They are not very cuddily and hard to catch. I wouldn't call them "tame." Is there still hope that they will get tame?

I don't know the breed. They are not lop ear. One is brown and look like peter rabbit and the other is black with some random white hairs. They are litter mates. They are large and long. Sometimes they growl if we are trying to pick them up and one nipped my granddaughter (9 years old). Once I pick them up and sit and scratch their head and talk to them, they seem fine. I'll post some fotos later. They live in a big hutch in the middle of my fenced chicken yard and sometimes I let them out during the day and always put them up at night. I leave the hutch open when they are out for them to go in when they want to.

Some questions:

1. What can I do for them to be more tame?

Try bringing them one treat each, maybe one or two a week. Bring them inside if they aren't already, so that they are more used to human presence.

2. Should I have them fixed? I do not plan to breed them.

Yes. Fixing will help with their hormones, and if they meet un-fixed males, there will be no oops litters.

3. They "hump" each other in a very serious way sometimes, is that normal?

They are trying to establish domanince, but get them fixed, because one of them might be a boy.

4. Would getting them fixed make them sweeter?

Genarally. It will help control their emotions.

5. Will they get better about us catching them when they are older or fixed?

Yes, but that may take a while. When you try to catch them, walk calmly, so you don't scare them. It is possible to scare a bunny to death. Please don't give up on your bunnies.

Thanks to all you rabbit people. I really love my bunnies. Their names are Rosie and Lulu.

I'm glad you love your bunnies! They have great names! If you have any more bunny questions, please PM me!

Thank you so much. I am incredibly grateful when more knowlegable folks offer advice and information. I started with chickens a little over a year ago and now I can help newbies sometimes. I am totally new to rabbits, so I am a true rabbit newbie. I just want to do the right things for my rabbits and not make them suffer for my lack of experience. THANKS!!

They are not pure Holland Lop. Mom is, but according to her previous owners, dad was an Angora, but all I see is lop as well.

Here is their mother.
"Angora" isn't a breed; there are French Angoras, Giant Angora, etc. There is a breed that is basically a twin of the Holland Lop that has an Angora coat, called the American Fuzzy Lop. Maybe that's what papa bun is?

You're welcome. To tell the truth, I have only been looking into rabbits for 2 or 3 months. But I feel like I already know quite a bit.
