What Rabbits Do You Have? Show Off Your Rabbits Here!

I am new to rabbits too! One doe I didn't know was bred when I got her had babies on wire, I found them cold but alive, and put them into the incubator to warm them up. But mama refused to feed them, so all 6 died. Very sad. I have Lionheads , mini Satins, and one Dutch. I need a mini Satin buck, anyone around this area... West Tn south of Jackson?

Please don't breed your rabbits. I am against breeding rabbits. If you want more, there are thousands sitting in shelters, waiting for their forever home. If you do breed the rabbits, make sure you have enough space and housing for 4-10 more little bunnies. Soon you will have more rabbits than you know what to do with. And it can be quite a costly endeavor.

Breeding rabbits is actually common for most of us. You see, a lot of us are in the show business, and shows call for rabbits that fit the standard. We breed purebreds to improve the our lines. Granted I have never successfully bred my rabbits, I know many people who do. Shelter rabbits are fine for pets, but for us, breeding purebreds is a hobby and a necessity to show. If someone wants to breed theirs, there is nothing wrong with it as long as they know what they are doing.

And of course, there are quite a few folks who raise rabbits for meat. Plus, there are people who have large reptiles that eat rabbits. Breeding rabbits isn't necessarily the same as breeding cats or (some) dogs, since rabbits can be something other than just pets. But IMO, the person who breeds anything should always have the goal of making "better," not just making "more."

That rabbit, if it is purebred, would be an American Fuzzy Lop. I have one as well.

Would explain why all the babies look just like their mother. I was picturing French Angora when she said Angora.. I didn't realize there were so many other Angora types. These are my first if I didn't already mention that.

I don't want to get into it too much on here because it's such a sensitive topic (animals shelters), but I would buy from a breeder before I would a shelter.

I honestly agree with you. I would buy from a shelter on certain conditions, but I'd rather go to a breeder first. You have no idea what that shelter animal's disposition will be down the line, or how long it will live (plus other reasons, but like you said, it's not appropriate to get into shelters too much on this site). If I was looking for just a pet, I MAY consider a shelter, but for breeding/showing purposes I'd take a breeder %100 of the time. Plus, you can never trust how much shelters really know or are telling you about the animal they are giving you. Breeders have tons of experience and knowledge with their animals. But hey, if you feel like rescuing and animal, go ahead and adopt one.

My general rule is quality over quantity.

Aoxa- Any Angora breed is usually on the larger side. If this guy is the same size as a Holland Lop, he is a Fuzzy. Plus, there are no lop-eared Angoras. (At least not recognized)

I realize that this is your opinion and you are completely entitled to it but it probably wasn't the best comment to make on this thread just for the simple fact that there ARE breeders on this thread that show their rabbits and also breed for quality not quantity. This is BYC after all and a lot those raising animals here are farmers as well.

It wasn't ever my intent to breed rabbits. I just wanted a friend for my Frankle (who is a disabled but really happy) and we got Daisy for him. She was already pregnant and we accepted that.

You know how much shelters want here for a bunny? $95 and they want you to fix all of the animals you already have.. I have a Champion BMD that I am not fixing until I test his hips. I want to stud him out. The breed is very rare in good quality.

I don't even have the option to adopt a rabbit, so sad... I wanted to for Frankle, but they denied me. Guess they'd rather euthanize than give a rabbit a good home.



Here is Frankle hanging out with a few of the kids when they were 3 weeks old. He is a surrogate dad to them. He is so sweet. I have no idea what he is either, but we think Dwarf mix. Again, he was given to us.

That's ridiculous. I didn't know the shelters were that bad, but I do know they overprice. Those rabbits are adorable! Who is that little Sable Point (the white/ grey color) rabbit? It's a pretty rare color, and it's also my favorite rabbit color. My Fuzzy Lop is a Sable Point.

It has blue eyes, though you can't really tell in this photo.
