LOL I mean it would take up my whole hutch hahahah...why dont they just advertise a hutch/nestbox combo all in one

When my gma used to have wabbits also with wood floors, she didnt even use a nestbox?? sometimes every once and a while the kits were stuck on the nipple and would get dragged out of the nesr 6 ibches,, only sometines, and only in the first few days until they put on weight...lol.. but mine are used to nestboxes from were i got em from so i dobr wanna take chances

I never was able to use nest boxes. I tried in the beginning but my does always seemed to ignore the nest box and make a giant nest where ever they felt like it. Now a days I just give them a big arm full of hay and they do the rest of the work. I would much prefer they used a box but it can be really hard to convince a mother rabbit to do anything any other way than she wants it.

I though my fam was the only one!! lol

If you think about it, there is nothing "natural" about a doe using a nest box. Her instinct is to dig a burrow (think down) and have her babies there. Most nest box designs have the doe going up to get in, at least a little bit, and are on the level with the rest of her cage. I haven't ever tried them, but I've heard about rabbit cages with a recessed place in the floor that you put the nest box in. People who have tried them have told me that they don't have trouble with does kindling out of the box, or babies getting pulled out.

If I have a young doe that seems to be nesting anywhere but in the nest box, I will put enough hay in her cage to completely cover the floor. That way, wherever she kindles, there will hopefully be enough insulation from the hay to keep the babies warm until I can get to them. When I find them, I put an appropriate amount of hay in the nest box, move the litter in there, and tuck them in with as much of the doe's nest material and fur as I can. Most does find the babies there without any problems, but since rabbits generally don't have an instinct to move babies, the litters stay put. There have been a few does that needed to be taught to get into the box to nurse the litter, but once they "get it," things usually proceed smoothly. Once a doe has raised one litter in the box, she usually uses the box for subsequent litters.

Yeah, these does used a box before I had them, thats why im gonna use a nest box for them, but with a wood floor, I used to put a lot of hay in the cage and they used to make a nice nest all on their own lol...its cute watching them at work lol...Ive seen those recessed nest boxes...what a cool idea, ive always wished to seen one in action...how about when the kits are ready to come out... can they easily jump out?
