I think my rabbit is in season, she's been more testy, trying to escape ( and did twice ) and her... thing is more swollen and red. is she? If so, I might get myself prepared for some baby rabbit since she escaped twice this week, and there are A LOT of feral rabbits around here.... great.

they cant crossbreed with wild rabbits but feral yes (you know what I mean right?) lol

Ours where able to cross breed with wild wild rabbits...long story on how our girls escaped. But there were lots of brown wild bunnies running around with our loose does and made mixed kits. They were just the standard brown ones you see everywhere...interesting though

I can't see why it would be impossible for a domesticated rabbit to breed with a wild rabbit. All the parts are the same.

Rabbits don't have a 'heat' like most mammals. They ovulate only after mating. If she is in oestrus, she will spear out, raising her back end for the buck. If not, she'll growl and crouch in a corner, or run away.

idk?? I used to think the same....but everyone told me it was impossible...Maybe someone else could chime in??

I also had a friend, who's rabbits cross mated with the with the wild rabbits, and there were lloootttsss of rabbits on his property! Sooo, is it possible she got mated? I didn't want kits... but I won't complain

So after reading around it seems that rabbits cannot mate with cottontail varieties but can breed with rabbits of European descent....for example Washington state has a large number of "domestic" wild rabbits that were brought over on ships in the late 1800 and early 1900s...those can breed with our domestics. Interesting for sure!
