Ok so I know there are a few folks on here who raise lionhead rabbits. Anyone care to give me some info on them? They're starting to grow on me and I've been contemplating getting one. But the problem is, I've seen this breed range in so many different ways as far as quality? I guess you can say? Someone has some on here and I absolutely love them! They look small and petite in size, their coats look nice and thick, their manes (if thats what you call them) look nice and rounded, thick but not too too long. Some of the lionheads I've seen look like a standard breed rabbit with a mane. If I go to a breeder and get one as a baby how do I know it will look like "true" lionhead when it is older. Also, what are their temperments like?

Inthesticks and PoultryPower I believe have some nice looking lionheads.
So we have a couple of "lionhead" rabbits, but we did not do careful research and select a great breeder. As such, we have two rabbits that looks nothing alike, even though they are from the same litter. One has no mane at all, and one's mane is pretty thin. There were kits from this same litter that have a full double mane. Obviously, something else is breed in here. They are pets, so it's not such a big deal to us. We did get them for 4H though, and we have found out that we can't show them. So we have to either get more rabbits, or just do showmanship instead of showing our rabbits. Just be careful! Our girls are super sweet and loving, and we don't regret getting them, but you def. need to go with a reputable breeder for lionheads. Here are a few pics of our girls so that you can see what I'm talking about.

I understand what you are saying but they are beautiful bunnies.

Thanks! We love them, they were my daughter's b-day present, but I think I spend the most time with them! They are such hams and treat lovers, it's hard to get good pictures of them.

This is them looking for treats!

What cuties!

My grandma swears a few feedings of cayenne pepper will pop an egg out of a free loader...lol she just sprinkles a bunch over their food.

I put a ping pong ball in the nest and they started to check it out tried cayenne but it didn't Pop an egg out so I dunno lol old wives tale maybe?
She's just holding out for spring weather I bet ;) .
Can an Amercauna lay a rosy/brown egg like an RIR egg? If the answer is yes, don't answer unless you want to hear me cry all the way from here to there. Lol. I haven't been keeping track of those eggs bec I an expecting a blue or green egg. Now the girls are all laying in crazy places. This must stop. I thought I had an extra brown egg today considering the number of hen less the Amercaunas. Here is SnowWhite under the bunny hutch. I took the foto from inside the house and the first time she actually saw me through the window and ran to the door where they get treats. When I didn't appear, she went back under the hutch. When she left I went to check. NO egg. I think blue Amercauna eggs are mythical. Lol. Here she is under the hutch.

Haha. Thanks Angel. I put 2 marble eggs in their nest. I think now that they are laying, I just can't find the eggs. Lol. I have a huge container of cayenne that I give them for parasites so it must be time for a dose. I wish I could just sit outside for a day and catch them laying. I was hoping the days of confinement in the coop would help. Time will tell. If they lay somewhere there is a big chance the other girls will come along and kick up the dirt and cover them.

Hey guys I purchased some rabbits yesterday and they looked really good, a bit underfed, but otherwise healthy. I was looking them over this morning and this is what I found on the doe

Its only her teats, and I've never seen anything like it.

I am no expert and I am sure BunnyLady will know, but if no one answers, I would get her to the vet. That did not happen overnight, I don't think. If it is her teets, could be impacted teets. At best an infection, at worst, cancer.
