So, rabbit milk is possibly THE most nutritious milk in the whole animal world and therefore has a LOT of fat, sugar and calories in it. The corn syrup is good for these bunnies for the same reason it is bad for us. It is a sugar that is very high calories and converts into fat very easily and it passes through the digestive system leaving just fat and sugar behind. The corn syrup is what brings the calories levels on par with rabbit milk in formulas.

When I was a baby there really wasn't baby formula, so those that didn't breast feed created formula with whole milk and Karo syrup. I can't speak for the formula you have for the kit, sounds good. I used canned kitten milk from Petco and Petsmart plus heavy cream.

I fed the kit drop by drop, and now his belly seems much rounder. The formula was extremely thick, and made my fingers stick together like super glue, so I made sure to wipe his mouth with a warm paper towel, and then wiped his little bum.

He's now nestled under the doe's fur, with a warm rice sack next to him for added warmth.

Make sure it doesn't ever become cool and is always warm. Also, I assume you have brought it inside. When my doe couldn't feed anymore she pushed the kit out of the nest.

Yes, the doe's cage is inside. I have them together in the same cage, but now I'm thinking of separating them. I force-nurse the kit, and syringe feed him, so the mother will need to stay close.

I recommend you separate them right away. Does don't lay with their kits to warm them like dogs do. They go to the best a couple of times a day to nurse. They kind of stand over the kit and the kit nurses upside down. If your doe isn't nursing there is not much good she can do but she can really harm the kit. Separate them and assure the kit stays warm, not hot. If you are using something that doesn't continuously provide warmth, switch to a heating pad on low with a couple of layers of towel on top. The kit can't maintain it's body heat alone. The kit can't chew the electric cord but very quickly it will be able to so protect the kit from chewing the cord. It's eyes open on day 12. It's very exciting.

Oh man... I honestly don't know how to type this.

Right when I was separating mom from baby (I had her new cage all set up and everything), and when she was all settled in, when I checked on the baby he was soaked with a liquid and cold. Turns out, she had peed on him (in the few minutes after I posted my previous post) and gotten her urine down his nose, in his mouth; everywhere. He was cold and gasping for air when I found him. He went down so fast; In only 10 minutes he was dead.

I tried to prepare for the probability that he would die, but this just tore me up. I'm so angry that I hadn't separated them directly.

I'm kicking myself over and over.

Anyways.. thanks everyone for your help. It was a huuuge learning experience, and hopefully next time everything will go smoothly. Thanks again.

I'm so sorry. Go easy on yourself, you were in new territory. You gave lots of love and caring. You'll be able to help someone else someday.
