I own 9 english angora rabbits. They are so gorgeous and i use them for fiber production not for show. Even so they are very sweet and will just sit in your lap all day. The kids llovee them

My mini Rex buck is larger then my mini Rex does but it's only like 2-1 lbs different.

Frankly, I wouldn't use a 5.5 lb Mini Rex, particularly if it's a buck. The top (showable) weight for bucks is 4.4 (in pedigree notation, that 4 lbs, 4 oz.), obviously, that's with the dwarfing gene. A MR that weighs over 5 lbs. clearly doesn't have a dwarfing gene, so that would have to come from the doe to have any chance of showable babies. I'd be afraid that a false dwarf that weighs that much more than the standard would throw even true dwarf babies that are too big to show. There are an awful lot of what some folks call "Midi Rex" out there - animals that are too big to qualify as Mini Rex, but too small to be standard sized Rex.

Okay so here's my problem. I bought 3 meat rabbits (2 does and a buck) and the woman said that the does were pregnant. I waited about 37 days and then decided to breed one of my does. I took the doe that is more hand friendly and put her in with the buck and they didn't do ANYTHING. I mean they didn't even sniff eachother they just chilled out! So I just left her in there, seeing they got along fine and I left her there for about 24 hours and i am still not convinced she's pregnant so i put him in with the other doe and the same exact thing happened! after 24 hours of them together i finally just put all three in the same huge hutch that the two does usually share (they are sisters and hate being seperated) so I have a buck and two does all in the same hutch and they are fine and enjoying eachother's company (they have for 2 days) but I am still not convinced they have bred! meanwhile my sister is laughing at me because most people usually have the opposite problem: babies coming out their ears, while i can't even get a single doe pregnant.

*and btw, I am certain on their genders!

Are litters are half and half. I'm not breeding this buck to my one doe because she's 4+lbs

You'll get babies. Just let them live together. :)

So yesterday I went and got two new rabbits! (technically one is my sister's but we all know i'm the one who's gonna end up taking care of it)
The first one pictured is mine, her name is star
The second one is named Curious and the woman I got her from says she is a doe and I think it's a boy.. although neither of us have much faith in our abilities XD
They are just over 8 weeks old

Your post made me laugh. I also have 2 does and a buck. The two girls are sisters that I got when they were 5 weeks old. They are about 9 months old now. I acquired the buck from a different breeder. I kept him in quarantine for a month. I was so prepared for the first mating and NOTHING happened. I mean NOTHING. My daughter and her boyfriend were laughing at me and making fun of the fact that only I would have rabbits that don't mate and a chicken that doesn't lay eggs. After keeping the rabbits apart for a week, the second mating was more successful. We are two weeks into wondering if it took. My first palpation experience failed.

I have a question regarding the two does. I only mated one of them. They are sisters and have been raised in the same living quarters. They got feisty with each other for a short time while they established their dominance but that quieted down quickly. Now that I suspect the one is pregnant, is it OK to keep them in the same cage and put a nest box in when it's time or separate them. I'm planning on separating them as a precaution and then trying to make a cage where they can still see each other with a wire insert between them. Feedback is appreciated.

I can keep them together. My 2does raised there first litters together in the same nest box.
The non momma doe won't usaly mess with the momma and baby's and the momma with defend her babies. But I'd never leave the pregs together any more. I can't trust my does anymore
