Oh, and BTW, make sure you treat ALL of your rabbits because Pinworms spread like crazy. Don't worry about them causing any harm. The don't do anything to the rabbit except live in their intestines. However, who wants a rabbit with worms hanging out of its butt? I've never heard of using DE. Tell me if it works.I will post a picture of the vent tomorrow if I can get someone to help me take the picture.
I looked up pictures of pinworm, I think that's what it is.
We just picked up some DE and are going to try that for a little while. If that doesn't work, I'll use what you suggested. Thank you very much for your help.
Thanks for explaining that. I thought when I got them that they felt skinny, because I could feel a lot of bacbone, but since I have had them they are eating as much as my NZW meat rabbits, that are over twice their size. Maybe after they fatten up a bit they will be a bit more frisky. They are very easy to handle and very active, but are very cuddly and not very much personality yet.I can't really answer this one because I am having the same problem with all my Lionhead does right now.
The one thing I have read is to feel their backbones, if they feel pointy then they are underweight, if you can't feel them at all then they are overweight, if you can feel them and they feel round then they are a good weight. Some rabbits don't want to breed when they are overweight and underweight
Welcome to the world of bunnies! What do you want to know?![]()
They have been mated together before and her last litter of 10 was in April, so they must like each other. I think they were mated together about 6 times over the last 2 years. They had been caged right next to each other, where they lived before, so I moved the girls between all girl cages and the buck next to the NZW bucks. What is the"hold down Method"? When I tried to see if the does would be interested in a different breed of buck, they weren't interested either. They just reached for the top of the cage and squatted in the corner keeping her distance from the buck. I know they do not have any kits in them, because one has never been mated before and is only 10 months old, the other doe is 2-1/2 years old and had a litter on 10 with the same buck last April. I am giving them treats of carrots and Black Oil Sunflower Seeds to help improve their coats, which seem a little dry and thin to me. I also give all my rabbits apple cider vinegar in their water for the probiotics in their lower gut. Can you recommend anything else? Someone told me that carrot tops and parsley helped a doe to ovulate, but will ovulation make her more willing to mate? The honestly just may not like each other that way. If they are healthy looking, nice weight - Another possibility is if there are retained kits -should be able to feel for that, & it's not too common
Are the 2 girls cages right next to the bucks?? If so try having them far enough away that they can't see each other / in turn if they can't see each other when in cage, try moving cages right next to each other
If you have only had them for a short time, they may still be adjusting to a new spacious home~
The person you got them from may have used the hold down method to get litters from them when they had them.
Sorry I can only give maybes & what ifs
I hope it helps out some & your buns get themselves back into gear!

(click on each photo, will make it larger in most cases)
Sexing your rabbit:: photos.
First photo is an adult doe - her genitals are right next to each other
Next photo is an adult buck - They are the easiest to tell because adult bucks will have testicles on each side (the penis has a faint 'hook' like shape to it, hooking down towards the anus.
Below is a photo of a 6wk old doe. Notice how there is not much of a protrusion & more of a slit. The genitals are close together
(I will take pictures in good lighting tomorrow so I don't have to use the flash)
Below is a photo of a 6wk old buck
Notice the cone like shape of the penis(penis is near my thumb) & the wide spacing between the genitals
Next we have photos of a 2wk 3day old doe & buck
Doe: Again you will see a slit (sorry again for quality, will get better ones) I enlarged the genital area to give a better view for right now.
You can see the slit better here & the more pyramid shape
Buck: @ this age (2wks3dys) the penis will still be cone shaped & have a greater distance from the anus
You can see the space pretty good here & the more rounded cone penis.
