The Polish belonged to my children and they were ready to sell out of their rabbits so I helped them disperse them, though, I kinda wish I had kept a few.  I loved them and they were high quality.    My boys did well with them.  But, the rabbits did go to exhibitors that they could help so that is good.  

The Woolies are enough for me for now, though.  I'm raising my family of 4 boys, homeschooling one, still have the diary goats which are going to be a lot of work real soon w/kidding/milking season coming up, and I just decided to strart working beefing up our Sumatra flock so I can start showing them (they've run wild until now).  So, yeah.  I keep busy enough.

What breeds do you show shadow rabbit10 ?  English?

@ Orpingtons4U - it's nice to find Wooly people here.  Are there a lot of Wooly exhibitors in your area?

I have multiple breeds:
1 Black Polish
1 REW New Zealand
1 Black English Spot
1 Broken Tort Holland Lop
1 Broken Sable Point Am. Fuzzy Lop
1 evil Opal Mini Rex

I will be getting a Broken Chocolate Polish doe to breed to my black buck. I also would like to get a Velveteen Lop.
You do not know my friend. He is from Ocean County, NJ as am I. I don't know what colors he has, as I don't know the color names for that breed. They are brown, he also has some brokers I think.

Wooly colors are fairly easy to recognize. Just keep in mind that wool tends to lighten up the body color to it is helpful to look at the head to determine what color a wooled rabbit is. The only brown colors we have would be Chocolate, Seal, Siamese Sable, Siamese Sable Marten, Sable Point, and Tort.

Yeah, it can be a bit crazy sometimes. I often have two breeds up at once. I don't show my MR, or my Holland Lop anymore. I may be retiring my NZ soon. She is not old, but she lost her quality. I like your Seal!

I have been going back and forth for a while now on whether to get Jersey Woolies or not.
Do you have to blow out their fur? Does it knot easily? And is it better or worse than American Fuzzy Lop wool?

you don't have to blow it i just use a brush and some water and idk about the Fuzzies though

My friend has had both fuzzies and woolies and he said they are the same amount of fur/maintenance. Their fur does not knot easily and you don't have to blow it like an angora. The only problem with the two is when they get their bottoms messy with pee/ wet poop.

You are in CA, right? If you are going to Cal State Convention, come on over to the Woolies and we'll let you go over a few.

You don't have to blow them out. A wide tined comb and a fine tined comb will work fine. I use a blower - it's fast and I feel it keeps the most density in the coat. Everyone has their preference.

Fuzzy coats are worse - more crimped wool, less guard hairs than a Wooly. A correct Wooly coat will not mat and will web infrequently. Baby coats become more cottony during "the uglies" and will require more grooming. I hardly groom mine.

You don't usually get poopy/wet bums unless their is something wrong - feed, stress, or if you put loose hay in a show cage and it layers the floor of it. In any case, it's easy to get out w/corn starch and a combs. Clean 'em right up.

Chocolates and BEWs are interesting. We're starting to see much better quality ones being shown now, I think.

I've been working on my choco/lilac program for about 6 years now - drawing out the colors from my own line. It's been a slow project but has kept my interest. I like my Lilacs better so far. Here is a pic of the wool of one of them.




This one is a Lilac Otter. I'm hoping to get Self in my next litter (bred a Broken Lilac and a Chocolate).
