Veryyyy nice, the smaller one looks like the one i made lol!!! 6ftx3ft, I only have ehr and shes supposedly preg? welll see

One of you mentioned that my little runt might be a peanut. I researched what a peanut was. This little one seems to have developed legs and arms (proportionate) and ears. I tried to photograph it, but it wiggled, rolled, and turned from front to back so fast that I couldn't get a good foto. I took a video, but couldn't upload it. It is clearly MUCH smaller than the other one (1/3 or 1/4 the size) and doesn't seem to be growing as fast, but at day 3 is very lively.

Since the mother hasn't rejected her and is feeding her, I plan to let nature take its course regardless.

Anyway, this is the only foto I could get (it appears to be getting some fur at day 3, too). So, what do you think?????

Also, I needed a bigger hutch, so my granddaughter and I used an old chicken run (no bottom), put hardware cloth on the bottom and put the whole thing on a platform we made out of a fence post (cut into 4 equal legs of 2' each) and two boards we cut up and attached to make a base. Then we just attached the run to the platform. We painted the bottom and this was the outcome...it works great and is quite large and VERY sturdy.

This was the hutch I bought and it was so small I couldn't use it which caused me to build the one from the chicken run (I needed a hutch big enough for 2 rabbits to live in normally and run around). I wasn't using it at all, but when the rabbit unexpectedly had babies, I put her into the small hutch with her two kits.

It's hard to tell the size of the kit when it's not next to the others to judge it's growth and development. I don't know too much about peanuts, I've never had one in any litter I've ever had from a breeding. That is a HUGE hutch you made! You could almost cut that in half (height wise) and make another one right next to it. I love when people get creative with items they already have. I thought about buying that chicken run to add to one of my coops.

peanuts rarely live three days. and they generally can't really eat. if yours is eating (is it growing? does it have a full belly after mom's been in the nest?) and is alive for more than three days, it is just a runt. peanuts generally get smaller as they waste away from not being able to eat.

The difference in size is big. Here is the day 2 foto and the difference in size hasn't changed. But, we are on day 4 and the little bugger is still lively. The original owner said she was in a cage with a couple of males over a period of time and I was wondering if one was from one buck and the other from the other and that the little one was slightly premature????????

This is day 2

This is new born. I'll post a foto from today, day 4.

I had a peanut that lived 10 days, but it's true, they usually die by day 3. To me, this kit looks scrawny. If it were in a large litter, it wouldn't be able to compete, and would most likely be dead by now. Obviously, there can be other things wrong besides inheriting two copies of the dwarfing gene. I only mentioned this, because I know how we tend to root for the "underdog," and get attached to something that seems to be struggling. This kit hasn't just had a rough start, it has something seriously wrong with it, and you will very likely lose it within the next week or two.

Well, sadly the little guy doesn't look as good today. If it is a peanut, everything I read is to let nature take it's course. If it is a runt, I can feed it 2X a day and maybe save it. I am totally new at this and wasn't prepared at all, so what do you think. This is day 4 compared to the other days. Today when I went out Mom was feeding so I left. When I got back the little one was not in the same area as the big one (usually they are together) and didn't appear to have just eaten (was more wrinkeled today). Also, the big one appeared to be bullying the little (is this even possible???). Leave alone or feed??????

it looks to me that the little one isn't growing (the size difference is just increasing). it is probably not going to make it. it is really sad, but life works that way sometimes. you may want to cut your losses before you get too attached.

Hate to say but I would let it go. It's REEEEALLY small. It's not gonna make it. Sorry.

Thank you all. If it could make it, I would certainly feed it, but you are all correct, it's not growing so something besides being small is a problem, it seems the same size as when it was born and its tummy has never been round looking. It's hard, but, I think I will have to let things take its course. Feeding it, especially my granddaughter would be sad when it died anyway. I really appreciate you guys, all of this is totally new for me. i've learned a lot!!
