What does DOA mean?

Dead on arrival..

Well my little sable point holland had a whopping 7 kits. However 4 were DOA, so I'm left with 3. I'm actually surprised at the size of the litter...I've never had a holland deliver more than 5...

Aw i'm sorry you lost some!

The litter size has nothing to do with the lose. It's just the new does don't relive THEY have to care for her babies.( some does first time they rasie them successfully, my one doe did, my other rejected them at first. My two shared a nest box by chose, but the first mom took the second ones until the second one got the point) mine have only had one litter so far( they're only 9 ish months now. So yea.

Oh ok, I've just never had that happen before. I've a peanut die, and I've had a whole litter due because it the does first time kindling. But never half and half. Just weird that the 4 that died were bigger than the three in there now too. Owell. I don't even know if this is her first litter or not. Fingers crossed these three make it.

Ok... a DOA means it was born dead. That has nothing to do with momma taking care of it. And short of covering it up to make sure it's warm mommas spend very little time actually "in" the nest.
So... DOA is very different than hypothermia... which is the most common cause of death the first day.
