They are precious. I guess being a first time mom she didn't know she didn't have to pull ALL her fur. Dang. That's the most I've ever seen. (I admit I haven't seen a lot, but an impressive amount of fur)

Thank you. :) Yes, I was a bit surprised at how much she pulled as well, and I've raised rabbits for decades. But the funny thing is, there are no noticeable light patches and you hardly tell where she pulled it all from. She actually pulled so much that I ended up taking out a good portion of it and putting it in a big ziploc bag just in case I end up with a doe that forgets pull any. I've even seen birds grab at pieces little of fur that manage to escape the hutch, in order to line their nests with. I'd say she's a keeper, as not only is she making sure her babies don't get cold, but she's feeding them really well as they are fat little roly poly things. And she's got a good personality to boot.

That's awesome. Young and eager is a great sign. I try at 5-6 months. 4 they're getting Randy and practicing (we don't speak of Cleatus's stuffed penguin incident o.o ) but better, bigger litters will be thrown if you make him hold out til closer to 6mths I've noticed in my NZ s. Gives him more time to hit the 10lb mark without getting to fat in the haunches too quickly too.

I'm getting a new zealand white buck that is almost 13 weeks old from a friend that lives right down the road from me and she said he got him for a pet but he humps everything so I can have him, which it sounds like he will be a great new breeder buck.... But I forget when I should breed him is it 4-6 months?

Babies! Awwww!
Forgot to mention...I currently have New Zealand Blacks and Palominos. I used to raise and show Standard Chinchillas, Dwarf Hotots, Holland Lops, Siamese Satins and Florida Whites. I've also raised a few Mini Rex, New Zealand Whites, and Netherland Dwarf, I didn't show them. Here's my newest litter of Palomino kits (from a first time mom).

Mine nibble hay when their eyes open, they will all dog pile a strawberry at about 3 weeks old lol and are trying to eat pellets with their mama (regular pellet sizes - I don't break them up, they eat what mama eats by 4 weeks and still steal a drink from mom but are using the auto water nipples by 4 weeks too. At 5 weeks my does are tired (my NZWS have been having litters of ten to twelve kits ) and she'll start chasing them off her or using her platform A LOT where they can't reach her, she will even LEAN down from her platform to eat and drink juuuuuuust barely outta reach :gig so by 5/6 weeks I move the larger ones into their own space. If there's a runt or smaller ones I mark them and leave with their mamas a lil longer (not traits we want in our breeder stock nor fellow breeders that buy from us), it does wonders for them tho and lets them catch up some I think.

Love the coloring on the California's!

Question:  I know it can take up to 8 weeks to completely wean from mama, but at what age do kits start eating feed?  And can it be the normal size pellets or do I have to food process them like chick feed?

Yup. That's a keeper.

you guys probs saw my post a couple of days ago, that i'm getting a bunny. I've never has a bunny before so just wanting to ask a few questions and want to get some tips!
so, the bunny is 6 weeks old, I think the guy said, will I have to get it special food or can I eat just normal rabbit pellets(or whatever they are)
and bunnies eat carrots and apples and all that kinda stuff right?
at the moment I have 8 silkies that are 6 weeks old in a pen, can I just put it in there with them? and if yes, do I have to put mesh or something on the ground so it doesn't dig out?
ummm...I think that's all my questions! thanks for any help!!
