SternRose - I'm sorry to hear about your buck. As difficult as this time might be for you, it is really important to think about the level of discomfort your buck must be in. When we choose to raise rabbits (or any pets for that matter) we must take into consideration all of the costs associated with raising them. (financial and emotional) We also have to be prepared to make difficult decisions regardless of how much we care about our pets or advancing our breeds. I am sure you will be able to find help somewhere on the internet with regard to splinting. Please consider the level of pain he must be in regardless of the decision you make. I am sending you best wishes and a big fat hug

We're taking Grace to be breed in a week or so

This is the set up for the beginning of our rabbitry, we have a nzw x sf (Grace) and she's 6.5-7 months old and Alice is a nzw that's 3 months old.

We're building a grow out cage the size of their current cage for when they ween their kits. There's a tarp over the cage to protect them from the elements. I'm excited to be breeding Grace next week to a 16 lb nzw buck Jilly :) I wonder what % of white babies she might throw out.

HELP!!!! My 11week old mini Rex buck broke his hind right leg at the hock!!! What do I do?? Dad won't take me to the vet, we can't afford to go to the vet and pay $200 for the vet to fix my baby!
Should I make him a splint? How? He broke it last night at 10:30ish, he lives with his litter mate.
He's my newest herd buck/ show buck.
HELP!! Dad wants to kill him!
I am so sorry this happened to you.I know vets are expensive, but I wouldn't try to splint it myself if I were you. If you can tell it is broken, than it is probably a complete break vs a fracture, and an improper set will affect him for the rest of his life. Do you know anyone who has experience in splinting who could help you? Someone who has done it before? Maybe a vet tech, someone in your 4H group, a local farner, even a nurse or a therapist would have some experience with people and may be able to help. I understand you don't want to euthanize the buck, my daughter would be the same way if something happened to one of ours, but I'm sure you don't want him to suffer and be lame forever either. Good luck, I hope and pray that you will find someone that can help you.

Please help, I'm new here and my lionhead buck, 1 year old, somehow managed to get out of his hutch 2 nights ago. I went to bring him and my 3 and a half year old doe in for a run around as it's been so wet here they haven't been able to go in their runs and I found him in my does hutch!

I don't know if they bred but I'm assuming so and she's never been bred before! I'm so scared this will kill her if she's pregnant! What do I do? X

These are my buns. The Dutch cross is the bun that's possibly been bred :/ she doesn't like the camera but you can tell she is also much smaller than the other 2 x

My two does are due this weekend, but I'm thinking only one of them is actually pregnant. Our tort doe was frantically trying to build a nest in her cage this morning, we weren"t set to give her the box until tomorrow, but went ahead and put it in. She tipped the whole thing over, dumped it out and made a lovely nest in the corner or her cage. That half of her cage has a wooden floor, and it has a top to it b/c there is a jump up shelf. so we are just going to let her keep it there. Exciting! Our other doe has completely ignored her nest box, except to eat some of the hay out. We will see, I will wait several days past her date before rebreeding to be sure. Fingers crossed, maybe she will surprise us, but her belly is not nearly as firm as the other doe.

My rabbit leader told me to put him in a small pen, to we're he can only turn around in, and let it heal by its self and hope he's still show able.
I won't to try it, but if it doesn't heal right, will he still be able to breed? If not then, we will have to put him down;( he's not moving much though. I don't think it's broke, but it might be sprained or fractured. It feels and moves like his other hind foot, but he cross his hind feet and his hurt foot hangs a little. I'm getting pics

What great advice. I hope and pray someone can help you.

My cat was hit by a car. Her hip was broken and damage to her foot. I took her to a vet that checked her and said she would need surgery at LSU Vet School, VERY expensive, or restrict her activity and see. She was dragging her whole hindquarters at the time. I was a single mom at that time and could not afford anything but "wait and see". She ended up having a great life, running, jumping, climbing trees. One back leg didn't bend in quite the same way, but she didn't care.

I asked our 4H leader, and her advice was very similar. She said a small cage, restrict movement, and watch for any signs of stress b/c bunnies are easily stressed by injuries. Here is a link with some good info for emergencies.

I hope it is just a sprain or injury, and not a true break!
