Please can anyone give me any advice? I can't even find how he got out of his hutch into hers across the other side of the garden! How likely is it that she'll have taken at this age if they did do the deed? What are her chances if she is pregnant? My children will be devastated if anything happens to her. I've been so careful :(

Please help, I'm new here and my lionhead buck, 1 year old, somehow managed to get out of his hutch 2 nights ago. I went to bring him and my 3 and a half year old doe in for a run around as it's been so wet here they haven't been able to go in their runs and I found him in my does hutch!

I don't know if they bred but I'm assuming so and she's never been bred before! I'm so scared this will kill her if she's pregnant! What do I do? X

These are my buns. The Dutch cross is the bun that's possibly been bred

she doesn't like the camera but you can tell she is also much smaller than the other 2 x

At 3 1/2 year old, I doubt she got bred. It's often very difficult to get a doe bred who hasn't been before 1 year old. If she did get bred, I would be more concerned with her kits not making it than her having trouble, but would still recommend reading up on rabbit birthing and potential problems anyway, just to be on the safe side. That way if she is bred and something goes wrong, you'll know what to do.
You could try palpating her 10-12 days from the day you returned the buck to his cage to see if she's bred. Otherwise, make sure she has nesting material/box at day 27 and keep an eye on her for nesting behavior (pulling fur, carrying hay/straw or whatnot around, digging, etc.)

Thank you for the information. I will re-read the info I have on kindling complications just in case. They will be coming into the house soon due to bonfire night so We'll all be close by if anything should happen.

Though bunnies would be nice, I'm more concerned over her health. I know that sounds harsh but she's our pet and she only allows the kids to pet her. She grunts and lunges for me probably cos I'm the one to clip her nails lol! She hates that, so with my guidance and overseeing, they take care of her daily needs so have a strong bond.

I have 2 'lionheads' for breeding, the deviant male lol, and my 4 and a half month old what I believe to be a cross or at the very least just has no mane. They will be my starters once my doe is old enough before I can get a better doe.

Another issue though. Do you find your buns eat and drink less during the colder, wetter months? All 3 of mine seem to have cut down dramatically on their food intake the past 3 week or so since the weather has gotten worse. My older doe barely eats at all anyway, never has. It's always worried me but she is half the size of the others and seems healthy enough. No matter what I give her, she barely seems to eat at all. She will only eat pellets, which is fine as the others like them too, but won't eat any fruit or veg, just pellets and some hay, again, hardly anything. Is this common with smaller breeds? My younger doe was drinking almost a full water bottle a day, yet now, even when they've not been able to go out in the runs, drinks about a quarter of it. Just happened overnight with my 'lion heads' x

I'm not sure how old your children are but you may have solved the mystery with those two words "my children". When we were younger there were many mysteries solved just by knowing which children were around when certain things happened. Often time, children think animals are lonely and would like to have a friend. Not blaming, just one possible solution. I love children and my grandson is my favorite child in the world. I found a AA battery in my bucks cage. It was quite a mystery for me until I realized our grandson had been here.

I think one of our does is in labor! I'm not sure though, but she is lying down with her eyes closed, breathing very steady, seems focused. How long does rabbit labor usually take? I hope this is it! So exciting.

My children are 5 year old twins so are never alone with them. I am always with them when they carry out tasks and check and double check the hutches after feeding and again before I go to bed, long after they've gone up so have no idea what happened. My doe was adopted and is funny around adults tho is coming around, which is why the children feed her so to avoid unnecessary stress at night during feeding time. I handle her when she allows during the day and she loves a cuddle but it's getting to that point with all fingers still attached that's the problem lol. Mystery still unsolved :/ x

Well, she wasn't in labor yesterday, just taking a needed rest I guess! Her nest has been built since Friday, but last night she pulled tons on fur and completely lined the nest. I was hoping we would see little ones this morning, but so far no go! Hopefully today or tonight. So far she seems to be doing everything she needs to, so hopefully if she has them overnight, they are in the nest and not on the cage floor. Fingers crossed, hopefully some sweet pictures soon.

Recently, I bought an old hutch on CraigsList and fixed it up a little bit. Grace loves it! here's my before and after pics:)
