The dam was double maned :/ at least the one they told me was the dam anyway. Won't be bothering with that breeder again as they've obviously spun me a yarn with this doe. When I first got her she looked the deal. But as she's grown, she's stopped looking like a lionhead (aside from the fluffier fur) and started to look like any other mixed breed. She's a wonderful rabbit but she's not what I wanted in terms of her type and general appearance. I wanted to breed for better lionheads as they are very rare around here but looks like that dream is a long way off. English spot is my next fave but that's a way off yet. My friends brother is breeding rabbits and she said yesterday he brought home a lionhead he doesn't want in his stock so I shall have to see if it is a lionhead and if it's of good quality. Gutted I can't find any :( I have people who would like a bun from my current pairing though so how old would you say she'd have to be? Would 5 months be ok as she's small? She's not tiny, but she's smaller than any mixes I've had in the past and the same size (a little bigger) as my male who is a DM.

We have kits! Our doe took us all the way to 31 days, but they are here now. We ended up with four, three brokens and one solid, no peanuts and no doa. Mom is doing a great job nursing, all is well!
Kit #1, broken

Kit #1 again,no butterfly, so won't be showable, but very cute!

Kit #2 solid ?black, my daughter says she looks like a seal!

Kit #3, my fav so far! blanket pattern broken

Kit #4, this one is broken, but very little white, we will see how it turns out!

What breed?

!!!! Can I have the last two?!?

They are mini rexes, and you would have to arm wrestle my kids for them! Those are the two they asking to keep already, like we don't have enough rabbits around here....:)

@abserbean Total absence of any nose marking is a DQ, an unbalanced nose spot like Kit #1 has is only a fault, so Kit #1 isn't unshowable due to its markings. Kit #4, which is what we call "booted." is clearly more than 50% colored, which is a DQ, so it wouldn't be showable.

They look fat and healthy, congrats on a lovely litter!

Thanks for the info! I knew the last was too much color, but my son just loves the white face marking, says it looks like Harry (hairy?) Potter. I didn't know about the unbalanced face marking. We will probably only keep one, so maybe the third one if the markings turn out nice. My son's black doe has white scatter and a large dewlap, so not so great for showing, so we would like to keep a nicer one for him. These kits are from my daughter's tort, which did well at our last show as a junior. I think now that she has filled in a little more she would do okay. She has turned out to be a great mom, which was honestly a bit of a surprise. She didn't seem very maternal prior to breeding, but she has been awesome, huge fluffy nest, babies are clean, fat and happy.

I know it's very early on but your story is reassuring regarding a first time mom doing right by her kits. I pray to have the same luck. Congrats on your little piglets

. They look great

Question: I tried my first palpation this morning on my non pregnant doe. I didn't feel anything unusual. I was at least expecting to feel the hard pellets in her GI track. Before I attempt the prego bunny, I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Any feedback and or insight is appreciated.

Every first timer I had this year pulled fur, made a nest, and kindled in the box (two when it was in the mid 90s). I think success is more common than problems. You simply tend to hear more about the problems. ;-)

Thank you for your reassurance. I have everyone in my house not expecting much. I will shift that energy - thank you! Do you know anything about palpation or do you just let nature take its course.

Do u go to shows?
Your a bit to far, :( but
If yo do and I have cage space and there the right sex, I'll defiantly think about buying them. If u sell that is;)
