I'm not sure. I've never heard of the growth stunt I thought the doe normally wouldn't take, but if she does, her size could definitely be an issue. I had an accidental breeding last May (small Holland buck to a large fuzzy lop doe, both 2-3 years old). Unfortunately, my doe was 4 days late, and eventually started to give birth, but then died out of no where. Now, you would think her being prime breeding age, a great size, two compatible breeds, that she would have gave birth no problem? Sadly that was not the case. :( sorry I ramble, but my point is, rabbits are weird and no matter what you think will happen when they breed, there's always a good chance of the unexpected. She could have an issue, not take, or have babies and be just fine. I wish her luck. You'll find out eventually.

Be careful what energy you send out to the universe.  Well, my dream/nightmare may have come to fruition.  My DH left this morning at 4:30.  He is left handed.  (that will make sense in a minute)  When I got up at 5, I heard a noise on the side of the house.  I looked out the window and everything seemed ok.  I went outside and found my smallest and youngest female outside her cage and appearing to be frozen in fear.  I scooped her up and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on.  The clasp that I use to secure her door was on the left side of her cage door.  Meaning, DH went out to check on the buns before he left.  (I always put the clasp on the right side)  The clasp didn't catch on the door and the cage, just the cage and well…. the rest is history.  The buck who we let out yesterday appeared to be laying on his side looking as happy as could be.  The poor little girl was panting and had loose fur on her back.  She let me hold her for the longest time.  The buck isn't coming anywhere near me to be put up.  I think he's waiting for another female to fall from Heaven. :love

I don't know if it would have taken, she's 14 weeks old.  I'm concerned about her size and age.  My mature does are quite large.  her mother is about 9-10 lbs. This buck and my mature does throw anywhere from 5-8 kits.  I've been reading different forums and some say the immature female can die.  Others say the litter will likely die or it will stunt her growth to have been bred that early.  Any feedback you have is appreciated.  I'm sure in 31 days I will know for sure.  Just shaking my head…..

I should get pics tommorow of the cage! I'm probably going to use one of our dog kennels, currently housing chickens but we are moving them to our bigger hen house

I'm wanting to colony raise my NZ meat breeders. I plan on having wire on the ground, where the grass still goes threw but rabbits can't. I'm going to make lots of nest boxes and a big wooden shelter for them to go in ic its raining, snowing ect.. It'll be a safe pen :)

Have you considered slats instead of wire? They get more forage with properly placed slats and it eliminates the likelihood of broken toe nails as they scratch and dig

No I haven't, what are they?

Here is a pic I took off Internet, so not mine, but same idea...

Thought I would leave this here while I read back through the thread. We have a trio of lionheads, well + 4 as of this morning.

Cute! Good luck with the kits!
Thank you!

I read a blog post of a woman that keeps her kits in the house and brings the mother in once a day to feed them and then puts her back out in the hutch. I would like to do this to keep the smell down, but I'm a little nervous. Anyone have experience with this? This is our first set of kits to raise.

I don't know how I feel about this. What if they kits want to feed more than once a day, and is once a day enough food? I always though the mom cleans them, and kind of introduced them to other behaviors. Plus, i just dont see why it would be necessary. I could be wrong though. I wonder if anyone else has any thoughts on this.
