What really is cheaper, buidling ones run or new panels

We used welded wire kennel panels and covered the to with wire fencing over the top... too hard to describe so I posted pics

It was a little more pricey but it is nearly indestructible

If I do get a kennel, iam so going to paint it black

Thank u for sharing, looks awesome

Well, we did our 12ft X 18ft run in wood and hardwire cloth. We were going to go cheaper, but decided to do it once and do it right.

For the wood, we used landscape timbers from lowes and they were no more than $5 each, plus they were basically the same thing as a 4X4 post. Plus they are already treated.

Then I ordered my hardware cloth online at CSNSTORES.COM and the shipping was FREE. Plus.... I saved almost 50% by ordering my hardware cloth online.
3ft X 100ft roll is $84.71
2ft X 100ft roll is $58.46

We put the post 3ft apart for the 3ft wire and then we used the 2ft wire for the top and doors. All in all it was pretty cheap, strong, durable, and looks great. We have all kinds of preditors in my area and since I'm deathly afraid of snakes, the hardwire was a must for me.

ETA: We also had to pick up some 2X4X12 to put across the top of the run to hold it securely. We plan to put a tin roof on top of that to help keep the run dry in the rainy seasons and provide added shade for the chickens.

Thank u for your advise

All so overwhelmed

I was reign to have a really nice size run for really under 300.00

That's why I began gearing more confused

But thank u so much

I bought a heavy duty chainlink dog kennel , 6' tall 10 x 10 for my D'uccles and covered it with aviary wire from TSC for 279.00 . It works great but I do have these two and they don't miss anything .

Good luck with your run .

This is fantastic and absolutely beautiful ! I have a koi pond but can't swim in it . I won't show you what my husband bulit me , LOL !

Like I said before, My 2x4 and chicken wire run was way cheep and pretty easy. If you are going at this alone I built it flat near wher it was going to be and then stood the walls up in place. You use a spare 2x4 to hold the first in place. My particular paint job wouldnt do for how it seems you have the rest of your landscaping and your coops, but with your apparent attention to detail, I am sure it would look just fine.

plans andd photos are on my pages. It was a real easy built because I choose the dimensions to be the same as the lengths the wood came in, no cutting. at least not for the run

My husband built the frame... you can't see it but there are 2x4's spaced every 3' for support the frames were placed on top and secured secured with band iron and then the wire is stapled and reinforced with screws and washers at intervals. The runs are 15'x15' each. We also have poultry wire around the bottom of the coops so nothing can get under the coops and there is an apron of the wire surrounding the whole set up so nothing can dig in. Just the other day I found raccoon tracks around the perimeter. You could tell the thing walked around and around looking for a way to get in... no way! My husband went a little crazy... it's like Ft. Knox but I appreciate it... We don't have bears around here but that is the only thing I could imagine getting through. My biggest predator problem is with Cooper's hawks and sometimes they hit that top really hard...so I am glad it is really sturdy.

Oh... PS... my husband is a plumber and does remodeling so a lot of the stuff we had around our shop...

The reason why I asked is, I have 10x10 dog kennel fence and wanted to extended their run. We also wanted to use the kennel as well but don't know how to cover the top using wood.
I just came back from homedepot and got 2 more 48inch x 50 ' mesh (fence) for $76.00 I have additional 2 of those un opened in the garage. Since I wasn't good at chicken math
