Sorry to hear the little guy didn't make it. I've worked with wild rodents on and off for years while doing ecological research. Most people never see one of these "pests" up close and personal. When you handle them and hold them it's hard not to love them. When I have taken people out in the field with me who insist they don't like rats and mice they have invariably melted after experiencing them up close and personal. People are always surprised by how clean and soft they are, their big liquid brown eyes, their wiggling noses, their inquisitive and gentle personalities, and their itty bitty "fingers". When I hold one in my hand and feel its tiny heart beating so rapidly I'm reminded of what delicate little lifeforms they really are (much like holding a baby chick). I still cry after all these years when one dies so I understand how you must feel. You did a kind thing trying to help him.
