What Sex is my quail?

Okay, Thanks! Also, I guess my male quail is sexually matured earlier then i thought. What will happens if they mate, but she hasn't started laying yet? nothing? or will the first egg she lays be firtile?

He probably won’t produce foam for a couple weeks at least. Once he starts making foam he will start breeding, she will just lay when she’s ready either way. However, you really need to have 4-5 females per male, or he will over breed her and she could end up with bald spots and injuries.

Okay. I only have 1 female. I will get some more thhis week or next week.

i would still allow at least a week or 2 after starting to lay before collecting any eggs for incubation....cracking a couple to check fertility never hurts!! (and makes for a good omelette)

Hello! They did amazing last night. They got a little cold, i'm guessing, because they huddled up under it.
*ALSO* Next Wednesday, I am getting 3 or 4 female teenage quail for maple, my boy

You will definitely want to keep this handsome fellow!!! If you put him in with wild type (pharaoh) hens, you will get sex-link babies with males being pharaoh and hens being Egyptian!!!!! ❤❤❤

These feathers just showed up overnight. I was thinking he was male because his chest was so bare, but you know, wishful thinking.

I kept all the Egyptian and scarlets from my big hatch and sold the rest of the chicks. I had to cull Big Red, so I haven’t been able to produce sex links. I’m super relieved to have a boy, I only had 5 total this hatch and they are 75% chance of being female. The previous hatch I had 3 scarlets who had a red mother and father so good chance one will be male, if so, I’ll have to choose.

I just noticed last night that I have one too in my jumbo variety around the same age as yours!!!

I had been thinking he was, then I was so happy to wake up and see his orange chest. Now that I’ve got him, just wait, all 3 of the 7 week olds will start crowing haha.
