what sex of wood duck gets the yellow ring around there eye?

i saw one of mine has it, and the other i havent check yet. Whats that mean?

#2 depends, hens can have thin yellow orangish and so can the drakes depending on age

hard to sex that way as yound birds.

look at the face feathers. Drakes will start to get a white chin stripe running from the lower jaw up to the eye. if the head has no white lines running like that, it's a hen, if it does it's 100% male.

like they said, post some pics and we can tell you for sure if you arent certain. males will also star getting several colors on their bill, hens will be dark and solid in color.
takes a little while, but the males will have white, black, orange/yellow, and red on their bills
