I think my chicken is egg bound. She's been lethargic, has difficulty moving and is very heavy. I put her in warm water and massaged her a little bit, but then found hundreds of maggots in her oviduct. I'm guessing the stuck egg(s) caused the skin to tear and maggots moved in. Taking her to a vet is not an option. Is there any hope for her or should we put her out of her misery?

Maggots are all cleaned out? Here is a link on egg bound www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/07/chicken-egg-binding-causes-symptoms.html

Have you tried giving her a calcium pill? Human calcium will work. The vet gives them a shot of calcium glutamate to stimulate them to lay.you might be able to get ahold of some at the feed store. Its usually called theracalcium. Make sure the ingredients are calcium glutenate. This will work also. But you can try the human calcium if you can't find the calcium glutenate injection. Hope this helps and best wishes.
