I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, if not I am sorry. After what I have went through this week with my pullet Buffy, and not being able to get out and get what I needed to treat her! What should I keep on hand at all times? I have electrolytes first on my list. But what else do I need. I don't ever want to be caught like that again, I am trying to prepare, and be ready if another emergency takes place! Also what can I do to keep mold out of there pens, we are in for rain all next week. The runs never get a chance to dry out it seems. Thanks in advance.

I think this is a great post as I have a sick bird right now and no supplies either.

Maybe someone could make up a list for us newbies and then make this a sticky post?

Or if there is already a post.. point us in the right direction?

well you do need neosporen in case of open sores or cuts or anything caused by picking and the electrolytes but thats all i know sorry but thats a start i guess

this is a great question. being a former eagle scout i always tout the motto be prepared. i keep electrolyte on hand. i dont like powders because they dont fully dissolve with unheated water. i switched to liquid electrolyte. red cell brand to be exact. good stuff and safe for all animals with a sweet flavor they love. i keep a bottle of wazine handy for worming. i keep neosporine or some type of triple antibiotic. cut sealer is handy to have around. the brand i use is cut heal. i keep a powder antibiotic like duramycin or tetracycline or both. one nifty thing to keep for cuts and wounds that have healed over is pine tar. i keep a can of that stinking crap. it works though. slather it on a cut and i guarantee that the other birds wont pick for long after they taste and smell it. plus it seals the wound and pine tar has a healing factor to it. i also keep a big bottle of bleach handy becvause while i dont use it directly on the bird i do think prevention helps. if you keep your pens and areas clean or at least semi clean and keep he bugs down you wont have a lot of the normal illnesses. but yeah thats my chicken first aid kit.
