Hi!,I am wondering what I should put on the floor of my Chicken coop I was thinking hay but..Kinda also wondering what everyone else would recommend to put on the coop floor...

Thanks,Collin

Right now I've got crushed corn cob bedding (found a ripped bag at TSC, got it 75% off) with a layer of white pine needles over it. I was using straw but it's a pain to clean. A lot of people like wood shavings or wood pellets.

I use wood pellets.

The pellets in the run have turned completely to sawdust and the girls peck and hunt as well as bathe in it (they do have a dust bath which they use too, but I often go out to see them half buried in the sawdust).

The pellets in the house stay pellets much longer.

I sprinkle stall dry in both the house and the run regularly.

I use grass clippings and leaves, free and available all year. Smell good too. Did I say they are free. My first choice would be wood chips. But I cannot get for free. If you use poop planks and empty every AM, you can get great compost material and also will keep the litter cleaner longer. Works for me. Coat poop planks with linoleum for easy cleaning.

I have in the shop/garage right know (from all the construction of the coop) more of small wood shavings its not really saw dust could this work...

I like pine shavings, they absorb odors and moister, but more importantly the ladies like them.

Didn't know I had a Rooster. Rhode Island Red.

If you are just now building the coop do use linolium for ease of future cleaning. I would reccommend wood shavings, hay and straw seem to clump and is harder to keep clean.
